Initiative attempts to boost UAE culture and display its many facets to the public
Sharjah: As part of its initiative to support and participate in different events and activities around the UAE and outside the country, Qanat Al Qasba, the premier family leisure and cultural destination in the region is sponsoring the Sharjah Heritage Days. The event that is being held under the patronage and wise directions of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, started yesterday (April 11) and will continue until April 26 at QAQ. The many cultural activities will go on from 5pm to 10pm daily.
With the slogan "Diving Deep into a Rooted Culture", the Sharjah Heritage Days is organised for the first time by the Heritage Division of the Sharjah Information and Culture Department.
"As the slogan of the event denotes, the Sharjah Heritage Days is about bringing alive the deep rooted culture that still exits among the UAE nationals. With the past paced techno-world that we live in today such events are imperative in keeping our heritage alive among ourselves as well extending the wonderful culture that we possess towards the expatriates of this country," said Hazem Sawaf, marketing manager at Qanat Al Qasba Development Authority.
"It is also through supporting such events that we build up on our popularity as a family-friendly and cultural destination, attracting visitors from different emirates as well as tourists from abroad to this wonderful location," he added.
One of the highlights of the events will include bringing alive traditional UAE wedding rituals. The collective marriage ceremony that will be held during the festivities will be open to visitors, while the colourful parades, Arabic poetic sessions and sea songs rendered by young UAE nationals is bound to create a great deal of interest. Handicrafts and traditional costumes will also be on sale for visitors. The folk life of the mountains, agricultural folk activities, traditional dances and performances will also dot the calendar of the 16-day festivities.
Since its recent revamp Qanat Al Qasba has fast caught on as the premier family and cultural destination of the region. Created by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Authority is chaired by H.E. Shaikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi.
