Roads & Transport Authority -Nashwan Attaaee: A delegation from the Dubai PoliceGeneral HQ, headed by Major General Engineer Mohammad Saif Al Zaffein, Directorof Dubai Police's Traffic Department, has recently visited the Public TransportAgency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA); where it was received by Dr.Khalid Mohammed Al Zahid, Acting CEO of Public Transport Agency; and AdelShakri, Director of Transportation Systems at the Agency.
Al Zahid accompanied Al Zaffein in atour to the Booking & Despatch Center, and Operations Control Center atPublic Transport Agency where Adel Shakri gave a detailed explanation about thesystems and mechanism in use at the Booking & Despatch Center to executethe booking of Dubai Taxi customers, and also gave a briefing about thebusiness procedures of the Operations Control Center.
"We are pleased with the visit of thedelegation of the General Traffic Dep't of Dubai Police headed by Major GeneralEngineer Mohammad Saif Al Zaffein in order to exchange views and opinions inthe public interest and improve the joint business affairs between the RTA andthe General Department of Traffic in Dubai," said Al Zahid.
"The RTA is always keen on broadeningand improving the bilateral relations with its partners, particularly theGeneral HQ of Dubai Police as there are common factors between the two partieswith regard to the services delivered to road users & public transportcommuters, traffic awareness campaigns, and the joint cooperation towardsimplementing the best safety standards and curbing traffic accidents,"continued Al Zahid.
Adel Shakiri said that the OperationsControl Center at Public Transport Agency was meant to monitor the efficiency& performance of public buses during operation and control its operationalpath through using sophisticated navigational systems linked to satellites."This Center plays a pivotal role in transforming the scheduled trips intorealistic timetables satisfying the needs of public bus commuters throughintegrated operational roles of Public Transport Agency Department," he said.
"The key tasks carried out in theOperations Control Center include the control of all operational processes ofpublic buses, direct control of journeys timetable through directing belatedbuses or those moving ahead of schedule, and direct contact with driversthrough Request to Talk system. Tasks also included operating additional toursover and above the ordinary bus schedules in order to meet the demand for somevehicles, streamlining the deployment of reserve buses & drivers to caterto special cases, coping with emergency cases such as accidents, and compilingall required reports with a view to improving public transport on buses," headded.
The Operations Control Center, whichis the first of its kind in the Middle East, includes one of the biggestscreens worldwide and uses 3-D Geographical Information System.
For his part Al Zaffein was impressedwith the work mechanism and advanced technologies used in both Centers. He alsopraised employees' dedication to their tasked jobs and endeavours to deliverbetter services to customers of the Agency and contribute to the vision of theRTA in providing safe and smooth transport for all.
