HRH's 14th Honorary Doctorate
HRH Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, Chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) was recently awarded an honorary doctorate in Management Science by the University of Brawijaya, Indonesia during a conferment ceremony held in Riyadh at HRH's Palace. The ceremony was attended by an Indonesian delegation that included Prof. Dr. Yogi Sugito, Mr. Warkum Sumitro, Prof. Dr. Bambang Subroto, Prof. Dr. Ubud Salim and Prof. Dr. Armanu Thoyib, and representatives from the Indonesian embassy in Riyadh. The ceremony was also attended by a KHC delegation.
The honorary doctorate awarded to HRH was in recognition of his efforts in many fronts including his investments through KHC locally, regionally and internationally as a respected, distinguished international investor and entrepreneur, and HRH's educational contributions on a global scale. Furthermore, Prince Alwaleed gave an acceptance speech during the ceremony: "...relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have been deep and historic...Indonesia has always been of special concern to the government and people of Saudi Arabia... and we have always been by its side in providing aid and comfort in its hours of need."
In 2007, HRH visited Indonesia and was warmly welcomed by the people and government of Indonesia and met with President Yudhoyono. H.E. President Yudhoyono had expressed his deepest appreciation on behalf of Indonesia's government and people for Prince Alwaleed's $19 Million donation to support the victims of the tsunami disaster and the floods that happened in Indonesia earlier that year.
HRH had received other honorary doctorates from universities all over the world: in 1992 Prince Alwaleed received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of New Haven and from the same university HRH was awarded a Presidential Medal in 1999. In 1998 HRH was awarded a Doctorate in Business Management from Kyungwon University, Seoul, Korea and a Doctorate in Law from Syracuse University in 1999. In 2002 HRH received a Doctorate in Law from Exeter University, a Doctorate in Law from the American University in Cairo, in 2004 a Doctorate in Humanities from AlAqsa University in Gaza, a Doctorate of Letters, honoris causa, University for Development Studies in Ghana, in 2005 an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the Islamic University of Uganda, in 2007 HRH received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the 7th of November at Carthage in Tunis, an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration with Distinction from the International Islamic University in Malaysia and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance in Malaysia. This year, Prince Alwaleed was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from the Commission on Higher Education Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao & Wisdom International School for Higher Education Studies in Philippines and Honorary Doctoral Degree in Commercial Sciences by St. John University.
