Amman, March 6th, 2011 - In an initiative aimed at supporting national health awareness efforts, especially among Jordanian youth, Pharmacy1's Drug Information Center (DIC) held a lecture on Wednesday, 16 February 2011, at the Amman National School (ANS) on the harmful effects of cigarette smoking.

The lecture, part of a weeklong health campaign entitled 'If you love me don't harm me', targeted teenage students in grades 10 and 11, focusing on the negative effects of smoking on the health as well as ways to help smokers kick the habit. The health awareness week was organized by the ANS Student Council to increase the knowledge of students, school staff as well as families on the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction.

Addressing attendees at the lecture, including students and educationists, Dr. Lara Abbasi, Pharmacy1 Senior VP for Healthcare Innovation, highlighted the importance of being informed -at an early age- of the harmful effects of cigarette smoking, as well as drug and alcohol abuse. She told the students that she was encouraged by the enthusiasm and interaction they demonstrated during the lecture.

Apart from offering superior pharmaceutical care advice to the public, Pharmacy1's DIC provides tips and counseling on making healthy life style changes and works to increase awareness on critical health issues among Jordanian youth.
