The solutions all focus on putting the learner at the heart of the system

Dubai, UAE, 9th May, 2011: Pearson, the world's leading education company offering collaborative teaching and learning solutions for campus, online and blended learning environments, has launched Phoenix e1, the first system of its kind in the world, at the Gulf Educational Supplies Show (GESS) which was concluded recently at Dubai Airport Expo.

Lara Khouri, Marketing Manager, Middle East/North Africa/Caribbean, Edexcel said: "What differentiates e1 from other management information systems (MIS) is the way in which it focuses on putting the learner at the heart of the system, facilitating personalised learning in a positive engaging way. Using e1, schools can develop and deliver curriculum plans to suit individual pupils or pupil groups, monitor and evaluate pupil performance and report to statutory bodies. Parents can use the system to monitor their child's performance and school activities and supporting bodies can manage and integrate the delivery of their services. Pupils can use the system to support their performance and access personal learning portfolios, timetables and reports."

e1 provides education establishments with tools to monitor behaviour, track performance at the establishment and pupil level, engage the whole school community in the learning process and record and analyse assessments.

Khouri added: "e1 has been successfully deployed in both state and independent primary, secondary, specialist and special schools throughout the UK and internationally. A number of pupil referral units and academies are also using the system."

For authorities, e1 brings an end to the burden and expense of installation and maintenance at individual schools. Deployed centrally with browser based delivery, the system requires just one installation to serve all schools across an authority and facilitates better communication and collaboration with schools and supporting bodies. Authorities can share data with their schools and provide an increased level of support by being able to view and interact with live data.

At the show, Pearson showcased English Language Teaching (ELT) digital products including MyEnglishLab, an easy-to-use, powerful online component for English language courses which is designed to save time and improve results with rich, interactive exercises in reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar - available for popular Pearson Longman textbooks.

The company also featured demonstrations on iTests.com for interactive exam practice for KET, PET, FCE, CAE, IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL IBT and PBT.

All Pearson's practice tests are automatically marked and follow the same format as the real exam.

Khouri added: "Our wide range of high-quality books, cutting-edge software and comprehensive online resources help to raise standards in education and enable  pupils to become better learners."

Teachers visiting GESS were given an opportunity to sign up for a free 30-day trial of Bug Club, which is the only whole-school reading programme that joins books with an online reading world to teach today's children, from ages 4 to 11, to read.

Pearson demonstrated a wide range of digital Solutions at GESS, including award winning educational technologies from EQUELLA, Fronter, Pearson Learning Studio and MyLabs, which are used by millions of learners worldwide.

Khouri added: "These solutions ensure that our products are easy to use, client driven, scalable and reliable. Visitors were fascinated by the live demos of our solutions."

Pearson also conducted a series of workshops aimed at introducing delegates to the benefits of their digital solutions. Doug Bickerton, Business Development Manager for Pearson Phoenix, hosted a workshop introducing audience members to practical ways in which they can minimise their costs while maximising student performance using Pearson's Managed Learning Environment (MLE).

The Pearson Managed Learning Environment (MLE) which is a single solution which allows student data to be seamlessly integrated with learner management and curriculum content. Since this information is contained on a fully web hosted environment, it allows for access anytime, anywhere and substantially decreases the implementation and support costs associated with other methods.

Joyce Felder, Pre-sales Support Manager and Teacher Trainer, also hosted a workshop which addressed effective implementation strategies using Fronter, a Pearson blended learning platform which is certified by British Educational Communications & Technology Agency and is used by millions of educators and learners worldwide. The workshop focused on how The British School, Al Khubairat has used Fronter effectively to enhance personalised learning, communication and assessment in classrooms.
