Achievements of 125 Students Applauded by Peers, Families and Faculty at the 2nd Annual Commencement Ceremony of NYIT Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, June 24, 2008 -- Students, their families and faculty members yesterday celebrated their successes at the 2nd annual commencement of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Abu Dhabi. At the Armed Forces Officers' Club in Abu Dhabi, NYIT President Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., conferred bachelor's and master's degrees to attending graduates from six different programs.
Commenting on the successful graduation of 125 students, Dr. Guiliano said, "For me and every other member of faculty it is a very proud moment as each student walks across the stage to collect their degree. This is the fulfillment of a dream; the pride, happiness and optimism demonstrated by each student is shared by everyone at NYIT."
"We are in the talent business, and the GCC increasingly needs to develop talent to achieve greatness: the quality of our students, faculty and graduates determine our standing as a university - which heightens our delight as we share their success. We were one of the first universities to recognize the potential of Abu Dhabi to become one of the world's 'idea capitals', and the number of students graduating today shows how we are increasingly helping to realize that potential."
The ceremony was also attended by: Mr. Martin R. Quinn, Chargé d'Affairs, Embassy of the United States of America in Abu Dhabi; Linda Davila, Chair of the NYIT Board of Trustees; Dr. William Cyrus Reed, Vice President, Global Academic Programs, NYIT; and Dr. Judith DiMaio, Dean of School of Architecture & Design, NYIT.
United States degrees were handed to attending graduates of: Master of Arts; Master of Science in Computer Science;; Master of Business Administration; Bachelor of Business Administration; Bachelor of Computer Science.
NYIT provides a number of international-standard degree courses in a variety of subjects and works closely with the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research in the UAE in delivering its programs. Each degree awarded is identical in content and standards to those offered by NYIT across the world, offering students the rare opportunity to follow their chosen course in more than one country.
Dr. Guiliano continued, "NYIT degrees carry great credential worldwide; they are well-respected and reflect the often extraordinary talent of our students. In addition to gaining international recognition, graduates from our Middle East campuses gain the envious position of being able to help the very large - and increasing - GCC-wide issue of talent need. At NYIT we are proud to be part of the solution to this issue.
"Finally, I should say thank you to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan for their ongoing work in setting world-class standards. NYIT wants to not only meet these but to set new standards as we continue to teach 21st-century students in 21st-century ways."
The NYIT commencement ceremony in Abu Dhabi follows ceremonies in Jordan and Bahrain, which saw more than 1500 students obtain undergraduate or graduate NYITI degrees, the same as were awarded in New York this year.
