Next generation ATMs exhibited at the NCR "Discover" event in Dubai, UAE
DUBAI, UAE - NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) has recently, introduced NCR SelfServ™, a family of innovative, automated teller machines (ATMs) designed to help drive more revenue by enabling easier introduction of services on ATMs at more locations, while also delivering the highest ATM availability levels resulting in greater consumer satisfaction and, in parallel, reducing environmental impact.
The launch of the new NCR SelfServ family of ATMs, was attended by more than 300 executives from the banking, retail and telecommunication industries from the entire Middle East and Africa region.
In addressing the participants, Stelios Fragkos, vice president for NCR in Middle East and Africa, said, "NCR continues its strong leadership in the region by focusing on our customers' needs for leading financial and retail self-service solutions. We therefore remain committed to providing our customers with innovative solutions that will give them a real competitive edge in today's very aggressive global market."
NCR SelfServ is the first ATM family that allows the full range of banking ATM services to be delivered at every location from the branch to retail and transport sites, including through-the-wall locations. This flexibility makes it easier for financial institutions to reach more customers with more ATM services such as bulk cash, recycling and bill payment.
NCR SelfServ is also the only ATM to use secure USB technology, which means that modules needed to deliver future services on ATMs can be added quickly, without compromising the security of the ATM. Moreover, as 2D barcode technology emerges, bill payment and other transactions that use this technology can be handled on new modules available on NCR SelfServ. Future technologies, such as contactless card and mobile payment systems, will be more easily integrated with NCR SelfServ ATMs, so improving convenience for consumers and creating further revenue generation opportunities for banks.
NCR SelfServ uses platform software that is "state aware" and allows for automatic reboot of ATMs when out of service. This "self-healing" capability means that software and USB communications failures that would have taken up to four hours for a technician to fix can now be resolved automatically in less than 20 minutes.
Over half of ATM downtime is due to the need to restock cash or receipts, often by branch staff. NCR SelfServ interactive instructions and lead-through panels mean that staff can fix more faults, quicker and first time. NCR SelfServ ATMs can also use NCR's patented two-sided thermal printers to reduce the amount of paper consumed, offering longer paper rolls and a dual receipt roll dispenser with auto-changer functionality. In combination, these innovations result in overall ATM availability improvements that could result in a bank being able to serve 16,000 more customers each year for every 100 ATMs on their network.
The innovations behind these availability improvements and other NCR SelfServ technologies can also help financial institutions meet their environmental responsibilities. NCR SelfServ ATMs conserve energy, paper and require fewer engineer call-outs, so significantly reducing the maintenance "carbon footprint." They use Intel Core™ 2 Duo processors, which provide improved performance at lower power consumption. The use of LED lighting not only saves power but also eliminates maintenance visits in contrast to fluorescent lighting systems. A 25 percent reduction in the physical cabling over previous generations of ATMs also helps reduce power wastage and allows for improved speed of service calls.
