New handheld Pocket PCs from Dell offer exceptional performance and value in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)
Dubai, UAE - Dell today unveiled three updated members to its Axim handheld computers family - the X51-416, X51-520 and the X51v-624. The new Axim X51s and Axim X51v feature Microsoft's new operating system and combine the award-winning design of the Axim X50 and Windows Mobile 5.0 software. The Axims are the first completely lead-free1 products offered by Dell in compliance with the European Union (EU) Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substance (RoHS) directive. The Axim X51s and X51v are available now across EMEA, prices starting from $340.
Windows Mobile 5.0 software enables users to easily take advantage of several productivity and multimedia enhancements, like updated Microsoft Office (including native PowerPoint Mobile) and Media Player 10 Mobile support. The new models are faster and more intuitive, providing quicker access to data and applications. The Windows Mobile 5.0 software provides a new user interface, improved productivity and battery life, plus Active sync 4.0, allowing for easier and faster synchronisation. It also supports persistent storage capability, helping to protect against the loss of personal data and applications when batteries discharge completely.
The new Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system will enable users to get the most out of their powerful Axim architecture which includes; a choice of Intel1 PXA270 Processors, integrated Bluetooth 1.2 and integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b), up to 256MB flash ROM and improved battery life. The new models also come with SD and CompactFlash expansion slots for adding hardware solutions.
The Axim X51v wireless model has a 3.7-inch (480mm x 640mm) high-resolution VGA display and Intel 2700G Multimedia Accelerator for a robust 3D gaming experience and DVD-like quality playback, plus 16MB video memory. Road warriors can, with an optional video-out cable, connect the Axim X51v to video projectors to display presentations, spreadsheets and documents. To ensure customers get the full experience of the Axim X51v high-end graphics performance, Dell includes the full version of two 3D games in the package.
The Axim X51s feature a bright, crisp 3.5-inch QVGA display and is compatible with the majority of software applications on the market today. Integrated LEAP and WPA security features meet the corporate customer's demand when integrating handhelds into the Wireless LAN. All models also include a headphone/headset full duplex jack to support headsets, VoIP and voice-recognition applications.
