Mowgli's mentoring programs will now be offered in English, Arabic and French to ensure wider inclusivity and local sustainability within MENA
On 3rd December 2012, the Mowgli Foundation together with its Algerian partner, MedafCo launched its second 'Train the Trainer' project to further develop its pool of French-speaking Mowgli Mentoring program leaders ('Mowgli facilitators').
The Mowgli Foundation is a UK-headquartered mentoring organisation, which was recently recognised with the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Young Business Leaders for the Best Mentor Network in the Arab Region. Mowgli recruits, trains and matches mentors with entrepreneurs across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with the aim of encouraging and facilitating the development and growth of sustainable businesses as well as job creation and social and economic development. MedafCo, Mowgl's partner in Algeria, is a consultancy company based in Algeria, which focuses on the development of entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises.
Mowgli achieves its vision through its yearlong entrepreneur mentoring programs. To date, Mowgli has run 29 small, medium sized and micro entrepreneur focused programs in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Algeria, Qatar, Egypt and the UK, supporting over 250+ entrepreneurs. Traditionally the programs have been conducted in English; however, programs have also been conducted in Arabic and French over the past year.
To further enhance the program's sustainability locally and ensure that mentoring projects are accessible to all communities across the MENA region, Mowgli has embarked on its second 'Train the Facilitator' project for French speaking facilitators.
5 French speaking, businessmen and women from Algeria and 1 from the UK, who all have significant experience in supporting entrepreneurship initiatives in their local communities and have also previously been trained as Mowgli Mentors, took part in this Train the Facilitator project. They will now undergo a long-term learning programme under the guidance of Mowgli's current and highly experienced mentor trainers and facilitators, and upon completion of their training, will be able to run the yearlong mentoring programs in communities within the French speaking countries that are currently unreachable. This will enable more entrepreneurs and mentors to participate in and benefit from the power of mentorship and volunteering.
In addition, the facilitators will also be able to train other facilitators in the future and expand the support to local communities to run mentoring programmes, which sustainably build local capacity and networks, driving economic growth and leadership across MENA communities.
Mr. Mustapha Koriba, one of Mowgli's Algerian mentors said of his participation in Mowgli's second Train the Facilitator project: "Mentoring with Mowgli is an extremely enriching experience for both the Mentors and the Entrepreneurs. Being a facilitator is a wonderful opportunity for me to contribute more to their mentoring effort, and work with many more mentors and entrepreneurs".
Kamel Osmane, General Manager of MedafCo said, 'We were really honoured to co-partner on Mowgli's second Train the Facilitator program to develop primarily French-speaking facilitators. Through the development of this capability, we really look forward to holding many more Mowgli Mentoring Experience (MME) programs in French, here in Algeria'
Helen Al Uzaizi, Mowgli's Chief Executive Officer said, "We are delighted to be launching our second Train the Facilitator program to further develop our growing pool of Mowgli Facilitators. Following our Arabic speaking Train the Facilitator program earlier this year, the focus of this program was on French speakers and will enable us to achieve greater reach to entrepreneurs across the MENA region. It truly supports Mowgli's key strategic aim of localising our mentoring programs".
