Doha, Qatar (October 17, 2012)

Lusail City Real Estate Development Company (LREDC), the developer of Qatar's iconic and largest Greenfield development, Lusail City, recognized Chinese firm Sinohydro for achieving 5,000,000 (5 million) man hours without a lost-time-incident during a special ceremony at its headquarters.

Sinohydro has been engaged in on-going developmental works on Construction Package 1 (CP1) located in the 38 square kilometre under-construction Lusail City northeast of Doha.

The 5 million mark is all the more remarkable considering the complex nature of the project and the ensuing challenges the firm has had to deal with, including operation in narrow spaces, heavy lifting, and humid and testing weather conditions.

The event was led by LREDC Health, Safety, Security, Environment, Logistics and Quality (HSSELQ) director, Salem Al Kuwari and senior Lusail officials as well as representatives of Sinohydro.  Also present were officials from Halcrow and Parsons International, which are also associated with CP1.

Salem Al Kuwari said, ""Today's special ceremony is a true reflection of our commitment towards implementing workplace safety improvements. There is no doubt that reaching 5 million man hours on this project, without a lost time incident, is an outstanding achievement in safety."

"HSSELQ's mission is to ensure that the workplace is safe and that the health and well-being of all workers is protected.  We strive to continue working safely and to minimizing the risk of injury to ourselves and others," he added.

On behalf of Sinohydro, Li Bingham, a senior official of the company received a plaque from LREDC.

Construction Package 1 is involves the completion of the first phase of the Lusail City development featuring the Marina and Wadi Districts. Work on the Marina District is progressing as per schedule with the road network approaching near completion, landscaping underway and the first of the plot building developments also on track for completion.
