Eight "experience zones" to empower workers about the entire gamut of workplace safety
Doha, Qatar (January 27, 2013) - Qatar's largest Greenfield developer, Lusail Real Estate Development Company (LREDC) a subsidiary of QATARI DIAR Real Estate Investment Company, together with Samsung C&T recently opened a ground-breaking Safety Orientation & Training Centre that holds the potential to empower thousands of workers at the 38 sqkm Lusail City.
Boasting eight "experience zones", the Safety Orientation & Training Centre translates LREDC and Samsung C&T's shared vision of safe construction sites as well as generating safety awareness among workers.
Samsung C&T is currently constructing an 11.4kms road, two underground motorways and three substations as part of construction package 5B (CP5B), now also home to the Centre.
"The opening of the Safety Orientation & Training Centre here today is the first drop in the water. We hope that the ripples it instigates have positive and wide-ranging consequences for the entire construction industry in Qatar, and beyond," said Eng. Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO of LREDC.
"In order to provide safety training and to comply with the domestic and international governments' safety policies, Samsung C&T must continue to develop safety awareness and ensure that our contractor's employees understand their responsibilities as far as safety is concerned at workplace. Safety Orientation & Training Centre will play a pivotal role in this regard and provide essential safety training to employees as well as visitors to our CP5B construction site," said Tae Hwan Cho, project manager of Lusail CP5B.
The first two areas of the Safety Orientation & Training Centre - Safety Belt Experience Area and Safety Hat Impact Experience Area - are dedicated to training individuals on using onsite safety equipment. The next four areas cover onsite facilities, including Temporary Facilities, Fall, B/T Scaffolding and Rigging experience areas.
Further, Safety Orientation & Training Center also teaches trainees about unforeseen construction site accidents. At the Electric Power Experience Area, trainees learn about various electrical safety hazards associated with short-circuit protection, overload, welding, and earthing, and on ways to prevent electric shock due to misuse of electric power. Last but not least, Fire Extinguisher Experience Area teaches trainees about proper fire extinguisher usage and the actions they need to take in the event of a fire.
"It is the priority of Health, Safety, Security, Environment, Logistics and Quality (HSSELQ) Department of Lusail to ensure on-the-job safety and our record reflects relentless promotion of workplace safety and health as well as reduction of workplace fatalities, injuries and illnesses," said Salem Al-Kuwari, director, HSSELQ.
Lusail City has been master planned to accommodate 200,000 residents, 170,000 workers and 80,000 daily visitors.
