Luigi Maria Monti Foundation and Qatar Foundation Endowment ("QFE") are pleased to announce their plans for Mater Olbia Hospital; a specialised hospital and medical research centre in Olbia, Sardinia, Italy.

Following the signing for the acquisition of the site in Olbia by QFE through its European investment platform, Luigi Maria Monti Foundation and QFE plan to complete and fully fit-out the existing property, the first phase of which is scheduled to open at the end 2015. This project represents a significant financial investment in the region.

Commenting on the completion of the investment, H.E. Reverend Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, Chairman of the Luigi Maria Monti Foundation, said: "I'm pleased that the Luigi Maria Monti Foundation has been invited to collaborate in the management of this investment, in-line with our commitment in healthcare. Mater Olbia hospital will provide high-quality care for residents of Sardinia and the wider region, with 290 new hospital beds, serving both public and private patients. Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù, a world class hospital ‎group, will manage the paediatric department of the hospital.

Mater Olbia Hospital will offer a wide range of services including cardiovascular, neurological, orthopaedic and paediatric specialities, as well as a rehabilitation centre. It is envisaged that Mater Olbia Hospital will be Istituto Di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico and Joint Commission International accredited - the first such facility in Sardinia. Studies will also be conducted on certain lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, which are common to the people of both Sardinia and the Middle East.

Furthermore, Mater Olbia Hospital will develop a network of close strategic alliances with a variety of leading hospitals and research centres, including:

- Sidra Hospital, a Centre of Research and Care for Women and Children in Doha, Qatar,

- Hamad Medical Corporation, the principal healthcare provider in Qatar,

- Research centres within Qatar Foundation (including its worldwide research network),

- Research centres of the Universities of Sassari and Cagliari, and

- Research centres within Sardinia and Italy.
