Dubai, UAE: Lenovo announced today it won a "Best of CES" award for its IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook, the industry's first hybrid PC for consumers with a groundbreaking detachable screen in the Computers and hardware category.  Produced and judged by editors from CNET (www.cnet.com), the winners of the "Best of CES" awards were announced Saturday, January 9, at the 2010 CES in Las Vegas.

Selected by CNET's unbiased expert editors, winners are recognized as having the hottest products in their respective technology categories for their unmatched innovation and creativity, and their ability to excite consumers and help them explore a world gone digital.  CNET editors reviewed hundreds of entries, as well as scoured the 2010 CES show floor for products to consider for the prestigious award.

The nine categories include Digital photo and video, Car tech and GPS, Cell phones and smartphones, Computers and hardware, Gaming, Green, Home theater, MP3 and portable video players, and Televisions. In addition there were awards given for the Best in Show product and People's Voice, given by the thousands of online viewers who cast their vote.

The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook's unique design is engineered to provide consumers with two PCs in one device - each with its own processor and operating system - that work together and independently as either a clamshell laptop or a multitouch slate tablet. The IdeaPad U1's fashionable scarlet red exterior has a footprint just smaller than a piece of notebook paper and is paired with an equally impressive 3.8 pound thin and light design. With its unique detach-and-converge design, users can easily remove the screen to instantly switch from clamshell mode into a multitouch slate tablet. When the IdeaPad U1 is in its traditional clamshell form, the system boasts an 11.6 inch HD LED screen and runs Windows 7. When the 1.6 pound, multitouch screen is removed, it becomes an independent slate tablet with a powerful ARM processor, running Lenovo's customized Skylight operating system.

"The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook represents the best of Lenovo design and innovation to create a new kind of device and computing experience," said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Idea Product Group, Lenovo. "This award demonstrates our continual commitment to bringing consumers around the world compelling PC products."

"Each year, CNET editors spend hundreds of hours on the show floor to find the hottest technologies that will drive industry trends for the coming year and beyond," said Scott Ard, Editor in Chief of CNET.   "Lenovo's IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook was chosen from thousands of products at the show, and demonstrates the innovation to be honored with one of our 'Best of CES' award."
