500,000 - the first of ten draws being held during Dubai Summer Surprises

Dubai, 11th July 2007: The Dubai Summer Surprises raffle draws prize of AED 500,000 is usually a pipe-dream - until you actually win it! This happened with Mrs. Azanbaq recently when she received a call from DSS, informing her that she had won the first of the ten draws of the 10 week DSS promotion. Mrs. Azanbaq, a mother of 3 and a resident of Dubai, had won the mega prize of half a million dirhams in the draw held on 28th June 2007 at Mall of the Emirates.

"I was in complete shock!" said Mrs. Azanbaq, who hails from Lebanon. "I couldn't believe what I heard. A huge smile was on my face, but still I couldn't say a word. I was really happy and surprised." Her husband and children kept asking her what happened and who had called, but she wasn't able to until she overcame the shock of the news - only then was she able to speak and share the news with her family. "They were all happy, of course - I certainly cannot describe the moment," she added.

DSS promotion converts a skeptic

Mrs. Azanbaq, who had never won any draw before, always thought that raffle promotions were hoaxes where no one ever won. "I always thought that promotions were designed in a manner where customers never win, but this time during Dubai's Summer Surprises when I won, my perception towards promotions has changed completely," she said. "I never expected to win a raffle draw and certainly not a cash prize."

She was out shopping for clothes for her children, which is when she received her raffle coupon. "I was with my three little girls and I purchased some shirts for them. I walked out the shop never expecting to get a call from DSS informing me that I have won the grand prize," said Mrs. Azanbaq. "The news was overwhelming!"

Mrs. Azanbaq plans to spend her winnings on her children's education, while setting aside some for savings for the family's future. When asked whether raffle promotions encourage shoppers to buy more, she said: "Now, yes I do think so. With my experience during DSS, I am sure that I for one will go out and shop more, just to have the chance to win once more."

Running across 21 participating member malls of Dubai Shopping Malls Group, the Dubai Summer Surprises 2007 shopping promotion is celebrating its 10th anniversary, where shoppers can win cash prizes worth AED 500,000 every week throughout the 10 week extravaganza - a total purse of AED 5 million dirhams.
