( Dubai, November 2002): A French treatment for cellulite, firming and toning is being introduced at Caracalla Spa in Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa, the first launch of the Ionithermie system at a hotel in the UAE.
A combination of algae detoxification and electrical stimulus, it has a proven effect on skin tone, cellulite and sun damaged skin, according to spa manager, Alison Brown – herself an accredited Ionithermie therapist who trained in the treatments five years’ ago.
“I tried out the treatment myself and can guarantee that it led to both inch loss on the thighs and firming of the muscles,” she said. “By kick-starting the metabolism and lymphatic drainage system, it has an amazing effect, particularly if used regularly as part of a health regime.”
Based on scientific principles, Ionithermie uses plant extracts and electrical stimuli to break down toxins stored in cellulite and then flush them away, while the stimulus to muscles also helps to tone and firm skin.
“Although the benefits are long-term, you can see the difference after one treatment,” said Brown. “It’s a great boost for those who want to look their best on a special occasion, or as a tonic after a hectic festive season, for instance.”
Every treatment starts with a lavender exfoliation, before electrodes are applied on the required muscles – either the lower body covering thighs, hips, abdomen and buttocks; the upper arms, or the chest area.
Used in conjunction with thermal clays, the one- to two-hour treatments, which also include a scalp massage, are suitable for both men and women: “For women, as well as firming the bust, thighs and buttocks, Ionithermie is ideal for sun-damaged skins, while men find that the treatment can help in losing inches from the waistline,” said Brown.
To launch the treatments, Caracalla is offering packages for one, three and five sessions, including a home car pack to extend the benefits of Ionithermie beyond the spa.
“The 12-day home kit contains algae products which continue the process of stimulating and toning the muscles, and regular use can accelerate the firming and toning process,” she said.
“Although we expect a lot of interest from our hotel guests – particularly before a special occasion dinner perhaps – the long-term implications of Ionithermie means that Dubai residents will be the main beneficiaries of the launch of the treatment, right on their doorstep.”
Two dedicated therapists will be available for Ionithermie at Caracalla Spa at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa, where other facilities include separate men’s and ladies’ sauna, steam and Jacuzzi facilities, plus a central unisex Hammam with five plunge pools set in a Romanesque atrium complete with draped statues, potted plants and subtle lighting.
Additional facilities at the club include a large gym with Gulf views and ranks of Nautilus resistance and StarTrac cardio machines; a separate aerobics studio, juice bar and changing rooms with direct access to the resort’s pools and beach area.
