Bamako, Libreville and Brazzaville, the first capitals to unveil Laico Hotels & Resorts New Brand

Starting from January 1st 2008, three African hotels will switch their signs, to display its of the new hotel chain: Laico International Hotels & Resorts. Thus the Le Meridien hotels Maya Maya in Brazzaville, El Farouk Kempinski in Bamako and the Intercontinental Oukoumé Palace in Libreville, will be under the management of Laico Hotels Management Company, a recently established joint - venture subsidiary between the groups Laico (Libya) and TTS (Tunisia). "Totaling nearly 600 rooms and suites," says Mr. Mohamed Abdallah Laajili, Managing Director and CEO of Laico, these three units, Laico properties, will be aligned with the category of 5 stars and this will be a substantial improvement. Specifically, the Maya Maya Laico Brazzaville will receive a total renovation programme. "

The Laico Group (Libyan Arab Investment Company, www.laaico.com) is a public holding company that operates, for many years, on the African continent in various sectors including telecommunications, industry, metallurgy, agriculture and tourism. Its investments in the tourism sector include hotels and resorts of 3500 rooms, which are classified under 3-5 stars categories. Some are located in shopping malls cities, others within national parks. Most recently, Laico has acquired the Abou Nawas Tunis, the 5-star Downtown hotel of the Tunisian capital.

"In total, says Mr. Laajili, 22 hotel-units owned by Laico are spread over 15 countries namely Tunisia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Gabon, Congo, Burkina Faso, Chad, the Republic Central, Ghana, Gambia, Guinea, Mali and Togo. Their management was entrusted to a number of hotel chains (Sofitel, Hilton, Intercontinental, Kempinski, etc.).

The TTS group, Tunisian Travel Service (www.tts.com.tn), whose main business is tourism, is a leading private Tunisian group. Founded by Mr. Aziz Milad, fourty years ago, in 1968 from a tourist transport company. It has diversified into the tourism sector (travel agencies and hotels), and is also involved in finance and investment, industry and agriculture sectors.

Ranked as the 1st national tourism operator, TTS Group is working through transport activities including a fleet of buses for tourists and the airline company: Nouvelair, tour operator and hotel (owner of 6 standing hotels with a capacity of 4000 beds and partner with the Spanish hotel group Iberostar. The group also is a share holder in companies that operate in leisure tourism (Golf courses in Hammamet and Tabarka).
