Riyadh, King Faisal specialist hospital and research center will launch the region's largest Arabic health portal "Health Gulf" http://www.healthgulf.com at the e-Health exhibition, which is currently being held in Jeddah.  The portal is aimed to serve the health care community from health care professionals to the general public. Naseej, the leading portal service provider, is responsible for providing all technical services necessary to develop and manage the Health Gulf Portal and its components. The deputy executive director of health outreach at King Faisal specialist hospital - the division responsible for the portal - Dr. A. Al-Amro commented on this project by saying, "Health Gulf Portal has been constructed to provide a competitive, comprehensive service for the health needs of consumers and health professionals alike.  It will continue to improve and expand to ensure a one-stop shop for all the needs of consumers and health professionals in the region".

Health Gulf Portal in its first phase will provide a multitude of services to its visitors, one of which is the virtual health communities whereby health care professionals of a certain specialty (for instance pediatrics) can interact with each other through chat rooms and discussion groups, in addition to receiving the latest information on their area of specialty.  Other services provided by the portal will include web-based email, chat rooms and forums, in addition to many other web based services. Health Gulf will also provide health information to the general public and will host specialized databases and directories, all covering health related news and information.

The Health Gulf Portal will run on top of the Naseej portal network, thus giving Health Gulf an advanced module based structure, which will enable it to scale its services with complete ease in a fully dynamic environment. Mr. A. Al-Abduljabbar, Naseej's executive president, commented on Naseej being awarded this project by saying" Naseej's true strengths comes from its experience; what we bring to the table is wealth of knowledge in creating and managing portals, one of which is Naseej.com, the leading Arabic portal site". Naseej.com does have an impressive record in providing portal services; it has won 8 different awards since its inception early 1997, the last being best Arabic portal site for the year 2000. Naseej has also created a joint portal with Al-Riyadh newspaper called Riyadh-guide.com, which is the most comprehensive guide for the capital city of Riyadh on the net, in addition to creating a portal for Alhilal soccer club. Naseej currently manages and operates both portals.

As for the second phase of the project, Health Gulf plans to provide online continued education for health care professionals and creating a business-to-business infrastructure, whereby hospitals and pharmaceutical companies can commercially interact. Health Gulf will also attempt to transmit telemedicine applications reliably over the Internet.
