King Abdullah Economic City, April 14th, 2013: The Irish Minister of Housing and Planning and Cabinet Member, Her Excellency Mrs. Jan O' Sullivan recently made a special visit to King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). H.E was accompanied by H.E Mr. Niall Holohan, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Mr. Dan Cunningham Enterprise Ireland representative for KSA; Mr. Tom Marren, Managing Director of Energy Solutions Developers (ESDM); Mr. Taher Tag Aldin, Managing Director Alaman; and a number of officials from the Irish embassy and visiting companies.
The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Fahd Al-Rasheed, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of KAEC, who said: "KAEC is an exemplary model of modern city planning which showcases a tremendous Saudi achievement that is a result of the vision and support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Therefore, it is with pride that I welcome this ministerial delegation from the Republic of Ireland to see the great progress we have made in creating a fully integrated 21st century metropolis that sets a new benchmark for mega projects of this massive scale developed by the private sector."
The purpose of the visit was to overview the scale of development in KAEC and the location of the 32MW power plant, a project involving ESDM and Alaman. Both parties discussed opportunities of mutual collaboration especially in housing solutions. In addition, a tour of KAEC took place after to identify the most important achievements and developments on the ground progress accomplished, including an update on the residential units, the Industrial valley and the Seaport. The Irish delegation was also interested in the clusters of pharmaceutical and food manufacturing facilities, since Ireland is one of the leading countries worldwide in the pharmaceutical and food sectors.
