Dubai: October 15 2006: Jumeirah Beach Hotel, part of Dubai based luxury hospitality group Jumeirah, took top honours last night in the Meat and Lifestyle Australia (MLA) Black Box Culinary Challenge for 2006. Jumeirah Beach Hotel cooked in front of a gala gathering that included Australian Government representatives, Executive Chef's from leading five star hotels and several renowned judges.

The MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge has been running since 1996 and has had over 1900 chefs from 15 countries participate in over 50 events. It is a competition participated by up to 15 teams of young chefs, assisted by a team manager. Participants represent some of the finest restaurants, hotels, airlines and culinary schools across the region.

Receiving a 'black box' of ingredients in the afternoon on Friday 13th October teams from Madinat Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Intercontential Hotel Al Ain, JW Marriott, Radisson SAS and Habtoor Grand went on to create a four course menu, table set up and served 30 guests for dinner before the winners were announced. Jumeirah Beach Hotel's kitchen brigade, lead by Executive Chef Leslie Stronach, won the gold medal followed closely by Al Qasr - Madinat Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab. 

Delighted about the chefs' success, Heinrich Morio, General Manager of Jumeirah Beach Hotel said, "We are extremely proud of our young chefs who worked hard to achieve this honour. Developing the talent we have in our kitchen brigade and amongst all our colleagues inspires and challenges everyone to achieve success together. As Dubai continues to grow, these accolades will continue to gather momentum".
