Singapore: Mohammad Asfour, chairman of the Jordan Green Building Council, signed two cooperation agreements at the World Green Building Council's International Congress in Singapore. The agreements, which were signed with the United States Green Building Council, will further strengthen ties between the two organizations.
The agreements augment cooperation between the U.S. and Jordan Green Building Councils by establishing the parameters under which both organizations will cooperate to offer LEED certification programs, including the Jordan GBC's hosting of a round table discussion on the topic that will be held in the near future. The agreements also outlined specific actions to facilitate cooperation between Green Building Council's in the Middle East.
"The World GBC International Congress has proven to be an excellent forum at which to promote environmentally conscious efforts worldwide," says Mr. Asfour. "Our agreements with the US Green Building Council will not only be the platform for future cooperation, but are an exchange of goodwill and support. We also lobbied with GBC's in both UAE and Qatar to work with the World GBC and separate the Middle East from the African region in terms of programs," Mr. Asfour added.
With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Jordan GBC was launched earlier this year. Its mission is to introduce, promote and advocate for appropriate green building concepts and practices within the Jordanian building and construction sector. The Jordan GBC has been actively engaged in disseminating awareness in green practices all over the country through training courses that highlight environmental solutions for Jordan's fragile eco system.
The USAID Jordan Economic Development Program is a five year economic development initiative implemented by Deloitte Consulting LLP and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. The Program's mission is to support sectors and activities in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision for a Knowledge-based economy, by inserting Jordanian enterprises into global value chains, promoting investment, and improving the enabling environment in order to generate value-added jobs, exports, foreign direct investment, and sector revenues as a powerful engine of economic growth.
