Jaidah Automotive - a subsidiary of the long-established and influential conglomerate Jaidah Group and the exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet in Qatar - grabbed the spotlight on the first day of the Qatar International Motor Show as they announced the launch of the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray in Qatar.
Leading the unveiling of the all-new model of the legendary high-performance Corvette Stingray to the Qatari market was Mr Mohamed Jaidah, Group Executive Director of Jaidah Group and Mr. Waleed Al Sayed, General Sales Manager of Jaidah Automotive .Together with Harrie Vanderschoot, Product Manager of Chevrolet Trucks and SUVs, GM Middle East Operations, presented the new car to an extremely impressed crowd at the show.
The event, which is on its fourth year, is being held from the 21st to the 25th of February in a bigger and better venue at the Qatar National Convention Centre following a record crowd of 150,000 from 103 countries the previous year.
As only a Corvette equipped with the perfect balance of technology, design and performance can wear the iconic Stingray designation, the 2014 model is the most powerful and capable standard model ever. Its host of commanding features that clearly redefines modern performance includes:
· An all-new lightweight aluminum frame, carbon fiber hood, removable roof panel for coupes, composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels, and carbon-nano composite underbody panels help shift weight rearward for an optimal 50/50 weight balance that supports a world-class power-to-weight ratio
· All-new 6.2L LT1 V-8 engine with 460 hp and 630 Nm and available performance exhaust that combines advanced technologies such as direct injection, Active Fuel Management, continuously variable valve timing and advanced combustion system to deliver more power while using less fuel
· All-new seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching that anticipates gear selections and matches engine speed for perfect shifts every time
· Driver-focused technologies such as a cockpit-mounted Drive Mode Selector that tailors up to 12 vehicle attributes and enables drivers to optimize the car for their driving preference and road conditions via five settings: Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track
· Z51-equipped models able to accelerate from 0 to 97 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in 3.8 seconds and achieve 1.03g in cornering grip
· Most efficient sports car on the market, with EPA-estimated 13.8 L/100km city and 8.1 L/100km highway
Sharing only two parts with the previous generation Corvette, the 2014 Corvette Stingray incorporates an all-new frame structure and chassis, a new powertrain and supporting technologies, as well as completely new exterior and interior designs. These include:
· Real carbon fiber, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather materials, two new seat choices - each featuring a lightweight magnesium frame for exceptional support - and dual eight-inch configurable driver/infotainment screens
· A sculptured exterior features advanced high-intensity discharge and light-emitting diode lighting with racing-proven aerodynamics that balance low drag efficiency and performance elements for improved stability and track capability
· Track-capable Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential, dry-sump oiling system, integral brake, differential and transmission cooling, as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability
Exclusively built at GM's Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant, the new Corvette Stingray's interior blends fine materials and craftsmanship with advanced technologies that contribute to a more connected and more engaging driving experience.
"The Stingray is undoubtedly one of the most highly-respected automobile names all over the world," Mr Mohamed Jaidah said "While immediately recognizable with its incredible, purposeful visual impact - just as the original did in 1963 - the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray also sets the future of modern performance by delivering more power and excitement," he added.
"It has the fastest acceleration, most cornering grip, track capability, and best braking response that can be expected from the most fuel efficient ever model of a standard Corvette," Mr. Jaidah added. "At the same time, its interior has been masterfully crafted to enhance any driver's connection with the car.
"With all its new and exciting features, the all-new Corvette Stingray is really three cars rolled into one," Mr. Jaidah explained. "It provides the comfort and functionality of a long-distance GT car, the connection and infotainment for the daily driver, and the acceleration, grip and braking of a capable track car.
"Most definitely, the all-new Chevrolet Corvette is as provocative, elegant and functional, as it is powerfully engineered to race and built for the road," Mr. Jaidah continued. "Therefore, I am confident that the all-new Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will take the Qatari market by storm."
