March 7, 2010 - In response to the increasing focus that companies place on information technology (IT) compliance, Deloitte hosted a seminar in Kuwait on IT Governance. Titled 'IT Governance - A practical approach toward adopting IT Governance Practices', the seminar was designed to share insight on how organizations can achieve best practices in IT while meeting wide-ranging market challenges. The session was sponsored by Deloitte as part of the Kuwait Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) chapter in-formation initiative and attracted a large gathering of Information Technology, Internal Audit, and Risk Management professionals.
"Organizations are continuing to face increasing regulations and pressure to run IT operations in a more cost effective and efficient manner," said Tariq Ajmal, Deloitte partner in charge of Technology Services in the Middle East. "It is crucial that in this environment organizations adopt an approach for IT Governance which is practical, viable and sustainable. Doing this once to satisfy many requirements through integrating frameworks and standards can help organizations start the journey towards sound IT governance practices cost effectively."
The seminar was presented by Nidal Tebawi, Deloitte Technology Services Director in Kuwait, who explored the challenges faced by organizations seeking to mature their IT practices and align those practices against best of breed IT frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, ISO 20000, ITIL and CobiT. Tebawi commented: "IT Governance is a critical component of the organization's governance posture and consists of the leadership, organizational structures, and processes that help ensure that the IT function sustains and extends the organization's strategies and objectives". Tebawi also shared with the audience a case study that explored the approach deployed toward the integration of these frameworks with a goal of an IT governance framework that is relevant, practical, and sustainable.
