Demand for secure, safe food processing solutions rises on account of growing imports of consumer-ready food products
Ishida, a world leader in the design, manufacture and installation of packing and weighing line solutions, has announced that it will present its latest X-ray system, when it debuts at the Sea Food Expo 2007, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on October 29-31, 2007. The exhibition is part of the company's intensified initiatives aimed at growing its business in the UAE, which recorded imports of consumer-ready food products to the tune of AED 4.89 billion in 2004. Moreover, since AED 1.28 billion worth of prepared foodstuff were re-exported out of Dubai in 2004, the company also aims to target the wider GCC region through its participation at Sea Food Expo.
Dubai's multi-billion Dirham consumer-ready food market continues to expand in view of several factors such as an increasingly affluent population, liberal trade policies, low tariffs, and growth in transshipments to nearby regions. The burgeoning demand for reliable food handling solutions has been affected by the increasing number of working women and single people in Dubai who are looking for convenience food, driving manufacturing companies to upgrade their food packing, sealing and inspection systems. Another significant contributor to the increasing need for reliable, safe food packing solutions is the rising number of tourists, which has spurred the opening of countless food outlets that mainly offer easy-to-prepare convenience food.
Commenting on the growing demand for high-standard food packing and quality control systems, Raees Ahmed, Director, Orange Fairs & Events, organizers of the show, said, "With rising concern among consumers about safety and health issues, manufacturers are now looking for the most reliable, comprehensive solutions in handling their food products. They want maximum peace of mind, and want to be assured all products that leave their factories are totally safe. Sea Food Expo aims to address the requirements of both manufacturers and consumers and is set to provide a prime opportunity for companies dealing with seafood to enter or expand their penetration of the Middle East market."
Headlining Ishida's participation is the company's IX-GA range, an X-ray inspection system that is generally acknowledged to be the superior choice for detection of metallic contamination in food products such as meat, poultry and fish. Featuring a simple, multi-language touch-screen operation, the IX-GA also picks up other more common food contaminations such as bone fragments, glass, shell, stone and many types of plastic and rubber. Further, the IX-GA's operation is unaffected by temperature, salt and water content. Unlike metal detection, it can pinpoint the location of the contaminating particle, while it is also a useful quality control tool as it can check the product's shape, thickness and integrity.
"We at Ishida aim to leverage our in-depth understanding of the various related industries - meat, confectionery, snacks, frozen food, and others - to develop solutions that bring premium value to the specific requirements of food manufacturers, helping them stay ahead of the competition. Our know-how, experience, flexibility, and state-of-the-art technology help us to make constant technical improvements to our revolutionary multi-head weighers, checkweighers, and even to our latest innovations such as Ishida tray sealers and end-of-line pick-and-place systems," said Paul Griffin, Marketing Director, Ishida Europe.
"Knowing that any form of breach in quality could lead to catastrophic consequences in sales, consumer confidence and even litigation costs, we have developed the IX-GA X-ray system to provide our clients with the highest level of quality control. Our X-ray system uses specially developed software that enables advanced masking features to enhance foreign body detection. Additionally, the IX-GA range uses a unique self-learning Genetic Algorithm or GA technology to offer maximum detection sensitivity and reliability," added Griffin.
The three-day Sea Food Expo will showcase seafood products, technology and services as well as furnishings, fittings, cold storage systems, packaging and equipment designed for the industry. Around 4,000 to 5,000 key representatives from food service, hospitality, retail, research, education, government, transportation, logistics, import/export, packaging, aquaculture services and other sectors are expected at the event.
"Sea Food Expo 2007 will offer the best opportunity to discover the latest technology and optimize networking potential. As the first exhibition in the region catering to sea food trade, the main thrust of the exhibition will be on hatcheries, fish farming and transportation, farming equipment and also on processing methods such as fish skinning and scaling machines, consultancy and diagnostic services, fish feed, insulated tubs and all fish-related activities," concluded Ahmed.
