Dubai, 28 May 2008: This week, the colleagues of InterContinental and Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City raised support for the recent tragedies affecting Myanmar and China by wearing their favourite pair of jeans to work instead of their normal uniforms on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th, in their 'Jeans for a Cause' campaign.
The cause was inspired by the terrible plights that the countries have faced this month, and the eagerness of colleagues of the hotels to work together and make a difference. World events such as these are felt deeply by the hotels' staff, with over 1200 employees across 54 nationalities. The support was greatly appreciated by the 71 Chinese and 23 Myanmar colleagues on board.
Hotel staff purchased the 'Jeans for a Cause' badges, and raised over AED 14,000 on the two days of the campaign. Hotel guests informed of the charity initiative, not only admired the efforts of the staff, but also offered their support through buying the badge.
Tom Meyer, Area General Manager, InterContinental Hotels Group Dubai Festival City said "I am immensely proud of the support that has been shown for Myanmar and China by our colleagues, and even by guests of the hotels. 'Jeans for a Cause' was not only about raising money for those affected, but to come together and show that we care. A difference has been made."
