Doha, Qatar September 12th 2011: International Gulf Trading Company (IGTC)-Chubb Fire Qatar, the country's leading supplier of fire safety equipment and security solutions, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a series of training modules designed to instruct staff about the Design & Standards of foam-based fire fighting systems.
During July, a series of training days conducted by an external expert instructed IGTC-Chubb Fire Qatar in the latest techniques in the deployment of foam-based fire fighting systems. The use of foam systems in fighting fires is becoming more prevalent worldwide, due mainly to the versatility of the method - for nearly every type of fire, there is a foam solution.
Foams are defined according to their effectiveness on hydrocarbon fuels, water miscible fuels, or both. Low expansion foam is used principally to extinguish burning flammable or combustible liquid spills or tank fires. Foams also can be used to diminish or halt the generation of flammable vapours in burning liquids or solids, and may be used to fill cavities where toxic or flammable gases may collect. The use of foam is of great importance where aircrafts are fuelled or operated; hangar fire protection is best accomplished by properly-designed foam systems.
Warehouses and buildings storing large quantities of combustible and flammable liquids are best protected by foam/water sprinklers and medium and high expansion foams may be used to fill enclosures where fires are difficult or impossible to reach. Foam of this type may be used to control LNG gas spill fires and help disperse the vapour clouds.
The tutorials were led by Viking Corporation representative, Mr. José de Antonio, a Spanish national and engineering graduate of Madrid University with 30 years of experience in the fire protection industry. José, who holds a raft of industry certifications and university teaching posts, runs seminars on various types of fire protection systems across the Gulf and elsewhere and it was his extensive experience of foam-based fire fighting that he brought to IGTC-Chubb Fire Qatar last month.
IGTC-Chubb Fire Qatar's General Manager, Rami Batrawi, commented, "This company has a reputation for the supply and installation of superior fire protection products and systems. Of course, it's paramount that our staff are also kept up to speed with the latest techniques in fighting fires so that we can transmit this knowledge and expertise to our customers when they are looking for the most appropriate fire protection solutions.
"To this end we were delighted to have Mr de Antonio lead the recent staff tutorials. Having the most experienced and knowledgeable people conduct IGTC -Chubb Fire Qatar's tutorials goes a long way to ensuring our staff stays abreast of the latest developments and techniques - such as the foam-based fire-fighting systems recently studied - used in the fire protection industry," he added.
