Doha, March 15, 2010: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has once again proven its reputation as one of Qatar's most prestigious employers at the Qatar Career Fair 2010. The fair, which is being held at the Doha Exhibition Center from 14th to the 18th of March, showed that interest in Qatar's premier healthcare provider as an employer remains very high.
The onsite team from HMC, who are manning a booth from which information is distributed to potential new recruits, have recorded over 350 applications on the second day of the event.
The high level of interest reflects a great desire to work in the medical sector, with many applicants seeking more information about HMC - these include Qataris, those from other GCC countries and from the expatriate community. The high number of applications received reflects the reputation that HMC has gained over the thirty years since its establishment.
"HMC has demonstrated its appeal as a quality employer in Qatar. We have seen much interest from all sectors of society, although we have noticed stiff competition in terms of salary on offer from other companies," said Noora Al Mulla from HMC's Human Resources Department.
"We are seeing many qualified applicants for different specialties, as well as a good number of applicants who are still in school and interested in pursuing a career in medicine. This is an excellent opportunity for us to outline the jobs available to them, and the financial support and scholarships we can offer for those who want to study in a medical field at university. We use this event to showcase the benefits offered by HMC and the long term career opportunities we have for the right candidates."
Al Mulla added that those applying were interested in a wide range of specialties including doctors, nurses, engineering and administrative positions, with particular interest in the pharmacy and administrative areas. She added that after the conclusion of the career fair, applications will be sorted and vetted. Once appropriate qualifications have been taken into account, potential recruits who fulfill the criteria for available positions at HMC will be contacted directly.
Qatar's prestige as an employer in healthcare is growing as opportunities increase with the expansion of its healthcare sector. The growing healthcare sector opportunity in Qatar was well represented at the Qatar Career Fair 2010 by a range of educational and commercial institutions who took the opportunity to introduce themselves to students.
Universities such as Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), which trains doctors, and the University of Calgary in Qatar (UC-Q), which trains future nurses, both reported high interest, predominantly in administrative positions. Many of the academic staff are recruited through the universities' respective home campuses.
