MUSCAT GUtech's German parent university RWTH Aachen University, has succeeded in the Excellence Initiative by the German government for the second time in a row and therefore affirming its leading position within the German and European research and higher education landscape.
"The decision of the Excellence Initiative strengthens the leading role of RWTH Aachen University on a national and international level. At the same time we are looking forward to strengthen our ties with our German parent university" said Prof. Dr. Burkhard Rauhut, Rector of GUtech and former Rector of RWTH Aachen University who was leading the university to the first phase of the Excellence Initiative in 2007. Currently a number of GUtech students are conducting internships, training and Bachelor thesis at RWTH Aachen University.
The Integrated Interdisciplinary University of Technology" was approved by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR). RWTH Aachen University has a total of 260 institutes in nine faculties. In spring 2012, around 35,800 students were enrolled in over 100 academic programmes. Over 5,000 of them are international students from 120 different countries.
RWTH Aachen University wants to invest the requested 78 million Euros for the Institutional Strategy and in addition to this the requested funding for other approved projects was also granted. RWTH Aachen University will therefore be able to pursue top-level research and improve its international marketing. "Due to our success, we are facing a unique and valuable opportunity to further sharpen our scientific profile. RWTH Aachen University strives to be one of the world's best integrated interdisciplinary technical universities by the year 2020," emphasized Prof. Dr. Ernst Schmachtenberg, Rector of RWTH Aachen University.

In October 2007, GUtech launched four Bachelor of Science programmes, designed by RWTH Aachen professors: BSc Sustainable Tourism and Regional Development, BSc Urban Planning and Architectural Design, BSc in Applied Geosciences and BSc in Applied IT. Last year the university introduced BEng Process Engineering and BEng in Mechanical Engineering.In addition two Master programmes are offered: MSc in Integrated Urban Planning and MSc in Petroleum Geoscience In September GUtech will move to its new campus in Halban offering state-of-the-art facilities including accommodation.
