The Middle East is undergoing an extraordinary boom in the property sector, with massive new projects being declared almost every day.

The opportunities and challenges of the booming ME real estate sector will be addressed at MEED's Gulf Property Investment Forum, 4 -5 March, 2007

The forum will focus on the key issues of investing in a difficult and unregulated market. It reflects the concerns of developers, investors and those in the financial sector.

The forum will provide in-depth knowledge of the quickly changing legal landscape and the new financial structures available to investors wanting to move into ME real estate.

Marwan Ahmed Bin Ghallaita, Head of TechnicalAffairs Department, from the Government of Dubai Land Department will speak on the implication of new freehold zones in Dubai and the recent introduction of regulation for brokers.

Lisa Dale, Partner and Head of Property from al Tamimi and Linda Mahoney, CEO of Better Homes LLC will give presentations on issues surrounding the implementation of comprehensive property law in the Gulf Property. Leading developers will also share their unique perspectives on problems associated with property development. Examples include related infrastructure development and attracting international investment. Presentations will be given by Richard Johnson, Head of Real Estate, Istithmaar and Alastair Burns, Chief Operating Officer of RAK Properties.

Other critical issues that will be discussed include Shariah financing. A discussion will be led by Dr Mabid Ali al Jarhi, IAIE Financial Expert Structuring and Shari'ah Coordination Dept, Emirates Islamic Bank. Speakers will also address the different investment models and to what extent Western financial structures can be transferred to the Gulf. Eng. Ahmed Salah Al Yafei, General Manager of Al Qudra as what opportunities are available in the rapidly opening up North African market.
