Dubai, UAE – Grundfos, the world’s leader in water and climate solutions, gave a deep dive into cutting-edge pumping solutions that could provide energy savings of over 50% to 450 industry professionals at the sixth Retrofit Tech MENA Summit in Dubai.

The two-day event, hosted and endorsed by Etihad Energy Services and Dubai Carbon, is the leading platform for energy efficiency, sustainability and retrofit projects in the region. The prestigious annual gathering of industry leaders provides a platform for ESCOs and technology providers to showcase innovative solutions and offers insight into UAE and MENA region projects.

Leveraging Grundfos’ status as the event’s Energy Check partner, members of the Grundfos Commercial Building Services team showcased Distributed Pumping, the brand’s newest energy-efficient solution for chilled water systems, a progressive technological shift that replaces traditional balance and control valves with intelligent pumps to improve Delta T and reduce pump energy needs.

Ronak Monga, Lead Business Development Manager, Grundfos, also delivered a session titled ‘Distributed Pumping in HVAC - A New Revolutionary Approach to Energy Efficiency’, supplemented by several case studies around the world, particularly the mixed-use Block 22 building at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, which reduced pump energy costs by 54% using Grundfos Distributed Pumping.

“Significant steps are being taken to reduce the UAE’s carbon footprint, with the building sector identified as a key industry for improvement as the country transitions into a climate resilient green economy. HVAC systems are by far the largest consumers of energy in any building, and retrofitting can help solve many issues while improving comfort and drastically reducing energy consumption,” said Monga.

“Retrofit is important to this transformation and has a role to play in the global climate change fight. At Grundfos, we have nearly 30 Brownfield, or retrofit, projects as well as our 90 Greenfield projects across Asia-Pacific/IMEA region. In the Middle East, we launched Distributed Pumping in 2020, and are already seeing great traction with over 30 projects under analysis and design for distributed pumping across the Middle East,” Monga added.

The sixth Retrofit Tech MENA Summit covered a broad range of important topics including a roadmap to Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in the MENA region, a breakdown of GCC projects and strategies from key stakeholders and ESCOs, and Dubai project updates from Etihad ESCO on the planned retrofitting of 30,000 buildings.

As part of Grundfos’ retrofitting efforts, it has already conducted more than 300 Energy Checks across the UAE since launching the service. During the summit, which culminated on March 24, the team of experts fielded several Energy Check requests in which Grundfos representatives inspect existing pumping systems across applications in a building, and provide a detailed report on the observed energy consumption, while also recommending solutions on how to save energy and an indicative return on investment.

Saravanan Panneer Selvam, Senior Regional Sales Director Grundfos IMEA, said: “There is a real interest for Energy Checks in the region, and the Retrofit Tech MENA Summit offers a wonderful platform for us to inform the industry about the benefits, and for everyone in the industry to learn more about our offering.

The stats speak for themselves, and Energy Checks offer a great opportunity for businesses to become more sustainable and for the country to further transition into a climate-resilient green economy.”

Grundfos has been championing sustainability and carrying out transformative work in both the public and private sectors for over 75 years. Through its work with partners across sectors, Grundfos’ retrofit solutions have saved at least 20 million kWh of energy in the region as of 2020.
