• The initiative aims to reduce the water consumption of medical institutions by 30 percent, while reducing the risk of disease transmission

Cairo: GROHE, a leading global brand for complete bathroom solutions and kitchen fittings, announced the launch of its "Green Hospital" initiative, a sustainability project that aims to reduce water consumption and costs within hospitals in Egypt, while helping prevent disease transmission by providing clean water right from the tap. GROHE kick-started the initiative in partnership with the General Authority for Healthcare on September 8, 2021, working to install faucets at El Hayah Hospital in Port Fouad, and El Zohoor and El Ramad hospitals in Port Said.

The "Green Hospital" initiative includes the installation of three of GROHE's advanced water-saving ranges, namely Bau Cosmopolitan, Bau Edge and Tempesta Cosmopolitan products.

Commenting on the initiative, Renu Misra, Leader MENA, LIXIL EMENA at GROHE, stated, "Working in partnership with the General Authority for Healthcare and in alignment with the Egyptian government's aim to not only save water, but to make sure clean water is accessible across Egypt, GROHE's installations are helping institutions save costs. By saving that 30 percent, the medical institutions can allocate more funds to hospital devices, improving the overall care provided to patients."

Renu Misra added, "Water is an essential resource that is tied to everything we do, which is why we have been dedicated to developing advanced water-saving technologies in all of our products. At GROHE, we are committed to raising awareness on the importance of water conservation, strive to improve water consumption habits amongst the community and encourage all institutions to reevaluate their usage in order to help contribute to a more sustainable future."

This installation comes as the first phase of the Authority's new health insurance system, which aims to improve the medical care and equipment at hospitals in Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Suez, Aswan and Port Said. The Authority is considered as the state's arm for improving the medical services offered to Egyptians, ensuring they meet international standards.

Commenting on the partnership, the General Authority for Healthcare stated: "We believe in the importance of the private sector's role in supporting healthcare projects, which is why we are proud to partner with GROHE. The company continues to showcase its responsibility towards the communities it operates in – and this project is the perfect example of that. We thank GROHE for using its expertise to contribute to advancing healthcare equipment in Egypt. Its products meet hospitals' strict requirements, guaranteeing quality, design and sustainability."

This initiative is a testament to GROHE's responsibility towards the community and environment, and is an extension to the brand's "Green Mosque" sustainability program. "Green Mosque" was first launched in the Middle East in 2009 as part of GROHE's global WaterCare campaign, which looked to install water-efficient products in the ablution rooms of mosques. Implemented in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, the program went on to win the 2014 SABRE Award and was shortlisted for the gold award in 2016.
