GreenGulf CEO Mr. Omran Al Kuwari was recently recognized as a Solar Pioneer at an award ceremony on the sidelines of the 2014 World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi this year. The Middle East's preeminent renewables trade body- Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA) and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) hosted an award ceremony for their first inaugural Solar Pioneers Program to recognize leading figures in the industry from across the region. Mr.Kuwari and GreenGulf were recognized alongside leaders from other major organizations such as King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KA-CARE), First Solar and Enviromena among others.

The awarded individuals were chosen based on their expertise and experience against four core criteria- leadership, impact, innovation and long term vision goals. The awards platform is designed to provide the leaders more exposure and an opportunity to network and benefit from each other's shared experiences.

"Partnering with MESIA on this great initiative has been remarkable. Together, through the support we will provide for the young leaders and innovators, we will ensure that the region is better positioned to enjoy the benefits of solar technology in short to medium term," Gus Schellekens, the leader of PwC's Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Sustainability in Abu Dhabi, said.

The selection of the top pioneers was made by a panel of international judges that are drawn from across the Middle East and selected jointly by MESIA and PwC. The panel includes CEOs, UN dignitaries, and former Ministers.

"Omran is an inspiration to all of us. For over 5 years he has been a trail-blazer in the region's solar sector, quietly rising to become the best known and most widely respected ambassador of solar in Qatar. He is just getting started and I'm sure that his impact will soon be felt across the entire Middle East" said Vahid Fotuhi, President of MESIA.

The Middle East Solar Pioneers Programme provides a platform for leaders to gain widespread exposure and diligent support and mentorship. Running for 12 months, the programme will also provide personal development and technical support. Such support is delivered through free MESIA membership with access to labs and PwC's training sessions as well as events and meetings.
