Technology driven mobile customers will be happy to hear Multi Media Messaging (MMS) is now available for all SimSim prepaid users.

Starting today [April 20], Batelco mobile customers using SimSim Prepaid packages can sign up for GPRS and MMS services and pay for them via their SimSim vouchers. This will allow them to join thousands of other users in Bahrain already enjoying the latest mobile technology through their Batelco Freetime and Valuetime packages.

In line with recent changes for Freetime and Valuetime customers where the BD 1 monthly rental for this service has been waived, prepaid customers and Freetime and Valuetime customers can all register for GPRS services free of charge.

"Feedback from our prepaid customers indicated there was a strong demand for GPRS and MMS services so we have invested in our systems to ensure we can meet these customers' needs and offer them the latest technology," said Hamza Ali, senior manager - mobile services at Batelco.

GPRS, short for General Packet Radio Services, is a technology that offers customers a continuous wireless connection to data networks to access all kinds of information. It enables services such as WAP (wireless application protocol), which allows users to access Internet information and send emails from their phone.

"Batelco is committed to achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction and our testing and trials to date showed this will be very popular in Bahrain, where people love the latest gadgets and new technology," he continued.

MMS gives users the ability to send messages incorporating sound and images. Messages can be sent from one phone to another, from a phone to an email or vice versa. Once Batelco prepaid customers subscribe to GPRS services, they can download free MMS from Batelco's Infome WAP site (wap.infome.com.bh) and send them to friends and family using the MMS service.

Customers using WAP services can download ringtones and mobile screen savers for free from the same wapsite. They can also browse WAP pages to check movie timings and horoscopes, as well as financial information like the stock market and currency exchange rates.

"Customers should also note that WAP services offered via GPRS provide a faster and cheaper service than WAP supplied over a dial-up service, which is the current method many prepaid customers use" Hamza added.

Following Batelco's MMS interconnection agreement with Jordan's Mobilecom last month and earlier with Kuwait's Wataniya, prepaid customers will also be able to send images to family and friends on those networks.

Customers can set-up their phones for GPRS and MMS by calling the mobile helpdesk on 196.
