IT Security spending set to reach US$9.3 Billion by 2009

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Security and network protection will be among the major areas of focus at this year's GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK, with a number of the world's leading companies unveiling new innovations designed to protect businesses and government organisations in the region.

Experts in the region concur that the level of infection, spam e-mail and malicious computer use has reached a point of becoming a management and technological burden, thus negatively impacting economic development.

Such is the need for advanced protection, market research company IDC estimates that the total value of IT security spending for the region will touch US$9.3 billion by 2009, with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain the top five investors.

As part of GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK Global Conference, Dubai World Trade Centre will host an insightful session dedicated to network and IT security, designed to encourage greater cooperation between different organisations in tackling computer security and addressing the need for advanced networking solutions.

"Network and IT security play an essential role in ensuring the confidentiality of business transactions and in protecting an organisation's reputation, and will therefore be an important theme at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK," said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre, organiser of GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK.

"In 2007, we are looking to leverage the event's position as the region's largest ICT procurement platform to drive a discussion about how technology companies can work together to provide a higher level of integrated security for the Middle East," he added.

Major security and networking companies participating in GITEX Business Solutions including Alcatel, Avaya, Bluecoat, Cisco Linksys, D-Link, Mitel, SecureWay, Sonic Wall, Symantec and TrendMicro, will be looking to address some of the challenges currently facing companies in this area, with a number of major technology innovations and new strategic partnerships set to be announced.

GITEX BUSINESS SOLUTIONS will offer a distinct area for Network & Security technology, which will include systems and solutions for networks, network computing software, as well as anti-spam and anti-virus solutions.

Trend Micro, one of the world's largest antivirus, security software and services companies, will be exhibiting at this year's event, and plans to announce a major enhancement to the way it protects its broad network of customers in the region.

"The Middle East threat landscape has changed dramatically in the last year; long gone are the days of highly visible virus outbreaks affecting millions of computer users," said Justin Doo, Managing Director, Trend Micro Middle East/North Africa.

"Cyber criminals are becoming more discreet and are using the increased reliance on the web to silently infect users machines and remain undetected for as long as possible. It is our role to raise awareness of this issue to help consumers and businesses be more wary about how they can practise safe web use," he added.

Another company with big plans for 2007 is Secureway. As one of the major security-focused specialist IT distributors in the region, Secureway plans to showcase the leaders in Unified threat management, Network access control, Endpoint security, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Identity Management, Application security, optimization and availability.

"The Middle East's IT decision makers are always in search for technology leaders and differentiators. Secureway will be concentrating on introducing more best of breed vendors in information security, availability and optimization to the Middle East market. Their solutions help businesses establish and maintain a more resilient IT infrastructure," said Zafar Shabdiz, Managing Director, Secureway.

GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK will run from 8-12 September 2007 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) and held in association with GITEX Shopper, which takes place from the 6-12 September 2007 at the Airport Expo Dubai.
