During his participation in FTTx Conference in Dubai
Last week, Saudi Telecom participated in FTTx MEGNA 2009 Conference in Dubai. The conference is one of the most important communication and IT events in the Middle East. Engineer Saad Bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani, vice president of Saudi Telecom Company Home Sector Unit, presented a work paper detailing the pioneering role of Saudi Telecom in promoting Broadband services in the Kingdom with the most recent technologies through the use of fibers to the homes, buildings, apartments, smart cities and coverage via long distances "known as FTTX". Through these fibers, it is possible to network several services such as high quality TV and connection services through one line which provides the highest speeds of Internet to clients in order to provide a distinguished added value to the clients' lives. This will assist them in browsing, loading data and completing all sorts of businesses with high quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
Engineer Saad Al-Qahtani stressed that Saudi Telecom leads the Broadband services in the Kingdom in its capacity as the sole company which provides all internationally recognized Broadband services such as DSL which is ranked as the first option for Internet users in the Kingdom and the whole world, XDSL, and FTTH. FTTH is a qualitative breakthrough introduced by the Company in the field of Broadband services because it provides actual and safe Internet at very high speeds; a matter which allows clients to enjoy Internet services in the various domains such as IPTV, VOIP, VOD, games and electronic amusement.
Al-Qahtani stated that Saudi Telecom implements an ambitious strategy to spread Broadband services in the Saudi society. The strategy led to the increase of the number of clients at a high percentage reaching 87%; a matter which makes the Kingdom occupy the fourth rank all over the world and the first rank in the surrounding countries with more than 1.3 million clients in AFAQ DSL service. AFAQ provides a real Internet to more than 7 million users. In this context, he referred to the widespread usage of Broadband services all over the world with an annual compound growth rate of 21% during 2013 AD and with a percent of 43% throughout the Middle East, in the light of the increasing demand on the high speed Internet service via land communication networks which is safer, more stable, reliable and dependable when compared to other Internet technologies.
Al-Qahtani manifested the efforts exerted by Saudi Telecom to connect the most recent fiber optic networks to houses and use them via long distances "known as FTTx" in order to provide its clients with the highest Internet speed to contribute to developing the various aspects of economic and social life and allowing the clients to use the Internet in several fields such as e-learning, medical examination, three-dimensional presentation (sound, image and data), holding international conferences, managing security, remote observation, and all other Broadband applications which shall leave prominently positive effects on the various avenues of life.
It is noteworthy that FTTx MEGNA 2009 is one of the most important international conferences in which top operators in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia participate in order to research the issues related to Broadband services, fiber optics, HDTV and Triple Play services.
