Competition open for participating schools; deadline for submissions is November 11
Dubai, UAE; November 7, 2012: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, is launching a poster and scale model competition for school students in Dubai and Sharjah.
In collaboration with Jumeirah Rotary Club, a community group that provides humanitarian service, the competition encourages students to visualise a 'Sustainable UAE - A New Vision' through a poster or scale model. Posters may include topics that propose ideas and solutions to promote sustainable development, and the scale models have to reflect what a green school could be in the UAE.
Adnan Sharafi, EmiratesGBC Chairman said: "Sustainable development initiatives must involve students, our future generation, and encourage them to become active partners in the change process. Through the competition, we are encouraging more youngsters to think 'green' and spread awareness of the need to promote environment-friendly practices."
The posters and scale models will be evaluated by esteemed panelists from the Jumeirah Rotary Club. Selected works by students will be showcased at the first Annual EGBC Congress to be held on November 27 and 28, 2012, at Grand Hyatt Dubai.
Legrand, a global specialist in products and systems for electrical installations and information networks and an EmiratesGBC corporate member, is the sponsor of the prizes. Winners of the poster competition will get a Mac Air Laptop and gift vouchers from Virgin MegaStore worth AED 1,000 and AED 500, while the best scale models will be awarded with free school evaluation and a recognition plaque and certificates.
The Poster competition is open to students aged 14 to 18 enrolled in participating schools across Dubai and Sharjah. Entries have to be hand drawn on an A3-sized 120 gsm paper, with the name of student, age and school to be written at the bottom right of the poster. Recycled materials are encouraged to be used. Drawing explanations need to be written on a separate A4-sized paper. One scale model out of recycled materials and no larger than 100cm x 100 cm from each school will be accepted for the Scale Model competition.
The last date of submission for both posters and scale models is November 11, 2012. Entries must be submitted through the participating schools: Raffles International School, American School of Dubai, Greenfield School, Gems Wellington, Asmaa Bint Al Nouman, Al Khaleej Al Arabi, Omama Bint Abi Al A's, Asia Bint Muzahim, Al Saeedia for basic education and Sheikh Rashid Bin Saied Islamic Institute.
