This year, ‘Dubai the City that Cares 2002’ organized 'The World Through the Eyes of Children', a children’s painting competition among Dubai schools, as part of the activities for the annual Ramadan campaign.
 
The month-long children’s art competition has just come to a close. With over 80 entries from 21 school, judges finally chose three winning paintings yesterday in three categories: Elementary, Primary and Secondary. Criteria for the competition were: the art work size had to be 50 x 70 cm, white paper and suitable colouring utensils could be used, with the exception of wooden colouring pencils.  All Dubai schools were invited to participate in this painting competition by submitting art works for the three categories.
 
“We were very pleased with the number of entries we received. It was a successful and enjoyable competition, definitely something we will look into for next year,” said Nuha Safar, Deputy Chief Co-ordinator, Dubai the City that Cares 2002.
 
The judging committee, which is made up of Siham Al Hajeri Dubai Educational District, Saleh Al Sayed Saleh, Dubai Educational District, Thani Juma Berregad, DCCI, Nuha Safar, DCCI, Juma Al Khateri, UAERC and Hassan Shawareb, UNICEF, met on 1st December in the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry to review entries and choose the winners, who will receive Dhs 1,500 each.
 
The winners are:
In the Secondary school category, the winner is Abdulla Ibrahim Al Hashemi from Emirates Secondary School; In the Primary School Category, Hana’ Mohammed Zuhair Mohammed from Tulaitilah School; and in the Elemnetary Schhol Category the winner is Ahmad Ali Mohammed Abdullah from Ahmed bin Salem Elementary School.
 
The main objectives of ‘Dubai, the City that Cares 2002’ are to activate the retail sector, activate charity activity and to promote Dubai as a commercial and tourist destination. This year, the partnership with UNICEF and the UAE Red Crescent (UAERC) have enhanced the charitable element for the children of the world.
 
“‘Dubai, the City that Cares 2002’ is proud to be part of the success of this educational, cultural and social competition like this for children,” said Ms. Safar.  “It is important for us to focus on the talent of young children as they are the future.”
 
‘Dubai, the City that Cares 2002’ started on November 2nd and will run until December 12th 2002. It is sponsored by Amreican Express, Dubai Islamic Bank, Jumeira Beach Residence, Gold & Jewelry Group, Dubai Shopping Malls Group and Al Zarouni Group.
