Conde Nast Travellerreaders vote for Dubai International Airport


Readers of Conde Nast Traveller have voted Dubai International Airport best airport overall in terms of design and layout which makes negotiating its shopping/duty free facilities that much easier. Within the airport category, Dubai Duty Free was also voted the best in world. For design and layout, Dubai International Airport received 95.73% of reader votes while Dubai Duty Free received 96.47% of the votes. Overall, in terms of global-ranking, Dubai International Airport was placed at No. 2 in the world.
 
Mrs Anita Mehra Homayoun, Director, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Department of Civil Aviation Dubai and Mr. Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, received the award from Ms Sarah Miller, Editor of Conde Nast Traveller at the Science Museum in London. The awards were presented at a gala dinner held for 500 travel and hotel industry representatives.
 
Commenting on this latest award, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Emirates Group, commented, “We strive to provide nothing but the best for all our passengers and customers.  This award is the recognition of all the hard work and effort put in by our staff to provide excellent service to passengers. Since it is voted the best by readers, it makes this award more valuable for us. When our second phase of expansion programme – which includes Terminal 3, Concourse 2 and 3 and a Mega Cargo terminal – is completed by 2006, it will ensure that we provide even better and higher standards of facilities and service.”
 
There were 20 different categories of awards, which included best airport, hotel, airline, cruise lines, tour operators, islands among others. Readers Travel Awards questionnaires were inserted in the May 2002 issue of Conde’ Nast Traveller. The magazine sent the replies to Market Management ,an independent market-research company, which analysed the data.
 
The criteria for judging the airport category were location/accessibility; design/layout; cleanliness; efficiency to check-in; efficiency of transfers; flight information/clarity of signs; pre-flight facilities/lounges; food/restaurants; shopping/duty free facilities; parking facilities.
