Dubai-UAE: 6 October, 2010 - Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), the dedicated higher education free zone and a member of TECOM Investments Education Cluster, today announced it will host the traditional 'Week of Welcome' celebration for the newly enrolled students of the 2010-2011 academic year.
Popularly known as W.O.W, the event will be held from 10-18 October. Organised by the Student Hub, the official representative of the student body of Dubai International Academic City, Week of Welcome offers campus universities a platform for interaction and allows freshmen to preview student life at DIAC.
Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director of TECOM Investments Education Cluster, said: "This annual event serves as an ideal ice-breaker for new students. In addition to giving them a good idea about the cluster's ongoing activities, the initiative also serves to raise awareness on DIAC's health and safety guidelines as well as the code of conduct for students. The Student Hub department, organisers of this event, uses the forum to highlight its activities and services that are rendered to the students and academic community in Dubai."
School students of Grade 12 as well as non-DIAC university students are also invited to W.O.W to gain a true feel of campus life at DIAC.
On Day-1, W.O.W will include an orientation programme that will cover the dos and don'ts in the UAE, as well as the local laws, norms and code of conduct prescribed for all DIAC students.
Sports Day will also be held on the first day and include skateboarding by RED BULL professionals in addition to basketball, football and individual game stalls.
W.O.W will host a concert on Day-2, featuring renowned local bands including Absolace, Behold the Locus, Ground Zero and KShatriya. In addition to belting out cover versions of 'Rock through the Years', the ensemble will also render their respective signature hit singles.
A movie night, desert safari, ladies' zone, a cozy student lounge and a live DJ will collectively serve to enliven the mood of informality within the campus during the duration of W.O.W.
