Dubai eGovernment has announced that it has recently signed an agreement with Dubai Police Academy to provide its eLibrary service, by which all books and research material at the Academy can be searched and accessed online. Students at the Academy will now have online access to various books, periodicals, audio/video tapes and compact discs. They will also be able to avail of a variety of facilities such as searching for a title through a range of general, author, series or subject-based keywords, as well as browsing through a wide-ranging collection of subjects, catalogues and websites.
eLibrary is an electronic library system that enables the registered libraries to add digital information on library resources that can be searched, reserved and loaned electronically. eLibrary can be accessed through http://eLibrary.dubai.ae
Salem Al Shair, eServices Director, Dubai eGovernment, said, "The signing of this agreement between Dubai eGovernment and Dubai Police Academy can be regarded as the implementation phase of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed's USD 10 billion initiative announced during the World Economic Forum in Jordan, which aims to support and develop scientific research that will in turn contribute to the creation of an information society in the region. This agreement is a great opportunity for cooperation in the area of information and libraries, both in the UAE and the region as a whole."

The eLibrary service aims at centralising and building an online library, providing a single reference point for researchers, minimising spending across government departments, automating the libraries of government departments' and enhancing the overall efficiency of library services.

In particular, the Academy stands at the technological forefront in the research, development and promotion of state-of-the-art policing and security systems throughout the region.
