Announcement made during Dubai Maritime Week 2012
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: 3 December, 2012: Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of the maritime sector in Dubai, has announced that it has completed a Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) that will ensure the safe movement of vessels between common ports.
Jointly established by DP World (DPW) and Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), the TSS is a traffic-management route that regulates traffic, in line with international best practices based on the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding the adoption of best practices within sea lanes.
According to the mutual cooperation, DP World and Abu Dhabi Ports Company will intensify joint efforts to ensure the smooth movement of vessels between Abu Dhabi and Dubai ports.
H.E. Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said: "This initiative is essential to strengthen maritime traffic management in the UAE. It will also contribute towards our continuing efforts to improve the quality of marine services offered in the country."
Captain Mohammad Al Shamsi, Executive Vice-President, Abu Dhabi Ports Company and Chairman, Abu Dhabi Terminals, welcomed the new initiative and expressed his happiness to work together in order to achieve a competitive edge and a sustainable maritime sector in the UAE.
Al Shamsi added: "The initiative involves the support of key government and private sector institutions to ensure successful implementation. Moreover, we will continue to build on our strategic alliances with DP World and Dubai Maritime City Authority and other key stakeholders of the maritime sector to introduce more positive reforms and reinforce the UAE's growing reputation in various aspects of the maritime sector."
