Workshop part of series of events & awareness campaigns to enhance customized legal training & broaden society's legal knowledge
Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI), the leading centre of law studies and judicial training in Dubai, recently hosted a first-of-its-kind legal workshop in the English language in the emirate. Titled 'An Introduction to Law,' the event was held in cooperation with prominent international law firm Musthafa & Almana. The initiative is in line with the Institute's advocacy of enhancing legal and judicial knowledge throughout the community by undertaking studies and research and organizing special seminars, meetings, and workshops in coordination with various government authorities, private firms, academic institutions, and other bodies involved in the legal and judicial system.
Running for two days, the collaborative event is the first in a series of legal workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns to be co-organized this year by DJI and Musthafa & Almana. It gathered top legal experts from the UK and India as well as representatives from Musthafa & Almana who discussed current legal requirements in Dubai. Talks covered legal contracts under UAE law, the UAE offense law, inheritance, custody, and family laws in the UK, India and the UAE, among others.
"This pioneering program for non-Arabs is being undertaken by the Institute in light of its strategic plan to enhance legal awareness within the community. It is particularly important due to its focus on providing participants with an overall view of UAE and foreign laws applicable in the country, including personal status law and family laws such as marriage, divorce, child custody, inheritance, and guardianship. We intend to continue cooperating with Musthafa & Almana and other leading firms in organizing customized seminars and workshops to improve the level of public awareness on key legal issues," said Dr. Jamal Al Sumaiti, Director General of Dubai Judicial Institute.
Former judge Fatima Beevi visited the Institute as a representative of Musthafa & Almana to discuss opportunities for cooperation between the UAE and India, specifically in the exchange of legal knowledge and expertise as well as strategies to enhance public awareness on the judicial process. Beevi also shared her personal experience as a practitioner of law and as the first woman judge of the Supreme Court of India as well as the first-ever Muslim woman to be appointed to a higher judicial authority.
Musthafa & Almana was established in 1992 in India and handles multi-specialization law cases. Through its offices in the UAE, UK and India the firm offers a wide range of integrated legal services specially designed to meet the growing needs of the business community; the real estate, IT, commerce, media, entertainment and insurance sectors; intellectual property; mergers and takeovers; employment; and family issues such as custody.
The Dubai Judicial Institute was established in 1996 to help educate and train aspiring judges, prosecutors and their assistants, legal experts and lawyers. DJI also offers habilitation programs for public prosecutors to enhance their efficiency. The Institute provides training and consultancy services to various public and private sector agencies and institutions and conducts local, regional and global research and studies on all areas of law and jurisdiction.
