Deputizing for his excellency Prime Minister Nader Dahabi, Minister of Transport Alaa' Batayneh opened the new Crown Class lounge RJ established at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). The lounge represents a qualitative leap toward improving air and ground services; through inaugurating it, RJ, the oneworld carrier, brings its development projects in line with the government's plan to develop the air transport industry and modernize QAIA, the main gateway for Jordan visitors.
President/CEO Samer Majali said that the airline decided to invest in this distinguished lounge for the time being despite QAIA undergoing a modernization process, all with a view of continuously developing services to passengers. He pointed out that the lounge is similar to the one that will be established after accomplishing the airport modernization.
He added that the 1,800 m2 lounge will further contribute to the company's services to RJ Crown Class passengers and those of the airlines operating from QAIA. Some of the beneficiaries of the Crown lounge are frequent flyer program's Platinum, Gold and Silver card holders, and the corresponding oneworld's Emerald and Sapphire card holders, in addition to other organizations' card holders, as per the agreements signed with RJ.
He also said that the lounge is designed to accommodate 340 passengers; it comprises a meeting room, a business centre equipped with the latest computers to enable passengers to use Internet communication and email services. It also has a library, an isolated room for relaxing, hotel-like bedrooms, showers, play and entertainment areas for children and adults. Additionally, there are areas for praying. The passengers can also buy what they need from the duty free shop from the comfort of the lounge.
LCD screens were installed in the main hall of the lounge where several TV channels can be watched, and some areas are dedicated to individuals who wish to watch favorite movies. Children can also enjoy watching cartoons and playing in a room equipped with manual and electronic games. A smoking area with air-conditioning and ventilation systems has been dedicated to the smokers who can also enjoy watching their desired TV programs.
Moreover, passengers can enjoy quality food and beverages sitting at the counters where they are offered a panoramic view that overlooks the ramp showing take offs and landings of aircraft.
Majali said that RJ was keen to see the lounge combine the Jordanian heritage and classy modern design. The areas were ideally utilized with nice lighting and calm wall colors and flooring. The luxury and comfortable furniture match the modernization RJ is undergoing in all its offices in the kingdom and in the countries and airports of the world.
He added that the Crown Class check-in office was also modernized to perform all travel and baggage procedures for Crown Class passengers by dedicating a special entrance from the main street to the office from the southern terminal. It includes check-in services, passport section, security checks, a special area to accept luggage and a passage that takes passengers to the new Crown Class lounge.
Present at the opening ceremony were the Minister of Tourism Maha Khatib, Chairman of RJ Board of Directors Naser Lozi, the top RJ management, several RJ employees and employees from other entities working at Queen Alia Airport, in addition to travel, tourism and air transportation organizations and a number of RJ frequent flyers.
The new Crown Class lounge is located on the second floor of the south terminal. It replaced the previous Jerash and Petra lounges, which were in the north and south terminals, to serve Crown Class passengers.
