The Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai, has become the first to sign up for the first Middle East aviation industry pavilion to be mounted at an international air show.
The pavilion, managed by Dubai air show organisers Fairs and Exhibitions (F&E), will make its debut at next year’s Farnborough International air show in the United Kingdom.
“This is an excellent initiative which will demonstrate internationally the increasing role the Middle East is now playing in the global aerospace industry,” said His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation, Government of Dubai and Chairman of the Emirates Group.
“The pavilion allows the Department of Civil Aviation Dubai to present its expansion, facilities and services to a wide audience of international industry professionals.”
The trail blazing pavilion is aimed at promoting the Middle East’s aerospace and aviation industry to the international market.
“Until now Middle East companies have been conspicuous by their absence at international aerospace forums, and this is despite the fact that the region now has quite an extensive aviation industry base.
“This initiative provides a cost-effective option for the regional industry to have an international share of voice,” said Alison Weller, Project Manager, Aerospace Group, F&E.
Response to the pavilion has been encouraging, according to Weller, with additional signings anticipated following Dubai 2003, the eighth international aerospace exhibition, which will be held at the Airport Expo Dubai from December 7-11.
“Much of the regional industry is currently focused on the Dubai air show. There have been a number of enquiries for pavilion space and we anticipate they will be pursued following Dubai 2003.”
F&E says the growth in the number of Arab companies participating in Dubai 2003 – over 70 this year compared to a handful at the launch of the air show series in 1989 is indicative of the expanded size of the Middle East’s aviation sector.
“Regional industry players now extend well beyond the airline and airport operators – including finance, leasing, maintenance, repair and overhaul to spares stockists,” said Weller.
F&E says following the Farnborough experience, the pavilion initiative could lead to similar Middle East arenas at other leading air shows, including Singapore, Paris, China, Africa and Australia and at market-related events such as the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, the National Business Aircraft Association meeting in the USA and the Air Traffic Control exhibition in the Netherlands.
