Abu Dhabi, UAE – Danat Al Emarat Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG), as well as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a USA based internationally recognized patient safety organization dedicated to recognizing and refining surgical care. These Center of Excellence accreditations distinguish Danat Al Emarat Hospital from many other hospitals by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.

Status as an accredited Center of Excellence means Danat Al Emarat Hospital, along with Dr. Sadoon Sami Sadoon (COEMIG) and Dr. Hazem Al Momani (COEMBS) as surgeons of excellence, have met internationally recognized standards, a testimony for the hospital’s surgical capabilities.

The accreditation followed a series of tours and site visits by consultants from the Surgical Review Corporation at the hospital in Abu Dhabi. During these visits, the accreditors reviewed the medical facilities, surgical outcomes at the gynecological and bariatric surgery departments, the operating theaters and intensive care unit, patient files, and the qualifications and experience of the surgeons and their teams. The inspection was consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization or surgeon improve its care and services. Following this extensive review, the two departments were granted the accreditation as Centers of Excellence.

Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi CEO of United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical) – the parent organization of Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children – emphasized that this accreditation confirms the hospital’s distinct surgical expertise, particularly for minimally invasive gynecological surgery and bariatric surgery. “As the first hospital in Abu Dhabi to receive this international accreditation in two surgical areas, this demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to maintaining internationally-accredited surgical standards and beyond, serving our patient population with the utmost care and the best surgical outcomes. This comes in line with the Department of Health Abu Dhabi strategies, uplifting the standards of care delivered to our patients from the UAE and the region,” Mr. Al Shorafa said.

Mr. Mariano Gonzalez, CEO of Danat Al Emarat Hospital, clarified that the accreditation process required detailed procedures and reviews by SRC to assure the performance level of the two surgical departments, proving their areas of distinction and commitment to international standards. The accreditors have also awarded Dr. Sadoon Sadoon, our Medical Director and Minimally Invasive Gynecology Consultant at Danat Al Emarat, the accreditation as Surgeon of Excellence in his specialization; as well as Dr Hazem Al Momani, our Head of Surgery and Bariatric Surgery Consultant as Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Sadoon Sami Sadoon expressed his delight for receiving both accreditations, as well as his individual award in his field. He said, “This achievement was a result of the high standard of excellence practiced by the surgical departments at the hospital. This is especially exemplified by a number of surgical innovations and endoscopic surgeries that we have adopted to raise the standards of surgical services provided to women of different ages, achieving high levels of success that are on par with international rates, in addition to the international qualifications that our team of surgeons holds. Our team of gynecologists have performed hundreds of complex surgical gynecology cases and rare cases in women, that could have chosen to travel abroad for care but have found the expertise locally in Abu Dhabi. We have also treated in the hospital a high number of women visiting us from the region in the past few years.”

Dr. Hazem Al Momani said, “Adopting international standards and measures in our surgical care at the hospital, and using the latest technologies at the hospital by our expert surgeons have jointly contributed towards achieving this accreditation. Since the opening of the bariatric and metabolic surgery department at Danat Al Emarat in 2018, more than 150 bariatric surgeries were performed on patients of different weights, most of which suffered various chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Our surgical outcomes were positive and in parallel with international outcomes, with no major complications, thanks to our experienced surgical and nursing staff, as well as the advanced medical equipment and facilities, and the comprehensive multi-disciplinary care we offer at the hospital.”
