Tekla's X-Steel used for 3-D Modelling of Al Jazeera Club
Grandstand Canopy - Abu Dhabi, UAE
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Consolidated Building Systems has partnered with Tekla Middle East to design and build a striking new grandstand canopy structure for Abu Dhabi’s Al Jazeera Club. More than 500 tonnes of steel been used to build the cutting-edge cantilever canopy, created using Tekla’s X-Steel solution, the industry-leading application for modelling and detailing of steel structures.
“The 3-D perspective provided by Tekla’s solution was vital in visualizing and ensuring the safety and durability of the Al Jazeera Club’s grandstand. We were able to generate a complete picture of the finished product before even the construction started, which kept us within time targets,” said Mr Hossam A. Gharib - General Manager, Consolidated Building Systems.
Companies involved in the construction business are discovering that technology such as Tekla’s gives them an advantage in the bidding process. At a time when competition in the sector is running high, Tekla products enable firms to develop an edge by forecasting both construction schedules and costs more accurately. Networked and Internet-enabled solutions, like X-Steel, allow engineers to work separately but concurrently on different aspects of a building, and then aggregate the 3-D drawings from anywhere in the world via the Internet.
Consolidated Building Systems, associated with Tekla, was able to develop a complete materials list necessary to build the landmark structure. The extensive materials list for the roof of the grandstand, provided by the X-Steel solution, helps to keep control over material.
Dedicated to building state-of-the-art structures such as the groundbreaking 30m by 110m cover for the grandstand, Consolidated Building Systems has cemented a strong working relationship with Tekla. “Our aim is to build innovative structures. To do this we require zero error detailing by working with the best technology available,” said Mr Rajesh Agrawal, Engineering Manager, Consolidated Building Systems.
Work on the grandstand project is underway, and the canopy is expected to be completed in July 2003 by Consolidated Building Systems.
Tekla’s technology is growing in popularity across the Middle East, and has been deployed in the construction of structures including the Abu Dhabi Trade Center, Dubai’s new Grand Hyatt complex and the Kingdom Trade Center in Saudi Arabia.
