10 December 2007

Computer Network Systems (CNS), the UAE's leading infrastructure systems integrator, has been showing off its latest banking and security solutions at the Middle Eastern ATMs exhibition and conference held recently in Dubai.

The event, staged by the ATM Industry Association at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, is considered to be one of the most important exhibitions put on for the banking industry.

CNS teamed up with Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH - one of the exhibition's silver sponsors - to demonstrate a number of technologies, most notably an anti-skimming device which is used as a front line defence against ATM fraud.

Representing the two companies at the show were Tony Alam, Managing Director of CNS; Ayman Basha, Sales Manager of CNS' Banking and Finance Unit; Hans-Joerg Brinkmöller, sales director Middle East and Africa of Wincor Nixdorf's Banking Division; and Winston Moses, Project Director at Wincor Nixdorf.

This anti-skimming module makes it impossible for criminals to attach card skimming devices and pin hole cameras to cash machines in order to copy card details and record customers typing in PIN numbers. Sensors monitor the ATM's card reader on a continuous basis and if a device is detected, the ATM shuts down immediately.

The module uses special sensors to check the entire card slot area for any devices which may have been attached subsequently. Where any suspicion arises, the machine is shut down immediately based on the time frame set by the bank. The module is imperceptible from outside the machine.

"CNS has been providing innovative turnkey IT solutions in the Middle East for 20 years," said Tony Alam, "and by partnering with major international organisations, we can ensure that we are able to offer specialist local and regional support with the full backing of the

biggest global players in the industry. Wincor Nixdorf has a world-wide reputation for its advanced banking solutions and together we make a winning combination."
