June 6, 2010, Dubai, UAE --Dubai Women's College, ACM Chapter hosted recently a lecture entitled "Cloud Computing: a Paradigm Shift".

This lecture, which was attended by a huge crowd of students and faculty, was given by Mr. Hamid Khafagy, IT Architect, Member, IBM Academy of Technology, who gave an overview of the newly emerging Cloud Computing trend.

"Cloud computing is an emerging computing model by which users can gain access to their applications from anywhere, and through any connected device," said Dr. Nasser Nassiri, DWC IT Department Chair.

Mr. Hamid presented what IBM and other industry leaders are doing in this space and shared with the audience many of the resources that these organizations have made available to its clients and partners. The newly emerging Cloud Computing trend was introduced in the lecture by presenting its history, definition, economics, and state of art. Also, Mr. Hamid argued that Cloud Computing is a natural evolution of the IT industry in its industrialization journey.

The talk was very beneficial for all the audience including students, faculty and staff of DWC and IT professionals. Amal, DWC IT student said "Attending workshops such as this broaden our knowledge in the field of Information Technology and we look forward to attend many like this in the future".

Dr. Amala Rajan, DWC IT Faculty commented, "Cloud Computing is one of the breakthrough technologies which is unavoidable in the future and we, DWC Chapter of the ACM, are proud to organize guest lectures on these types of upcoming technologies."
