Dubai, 29 March, 2011: The Dubai Early Childhood Development Centre (DECDC), one of Dubai Community Development Authority's initiatives, in partnership with Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), organized a series of training sessions for teachers from different government schools. This initiative aims to enhance the skills of teachers in interacting with children with disabilities.

The training sessions, which focused on the skills of dealing with children in the early childhood stage, covered schools and kindergartens that are part of an integration project for children with disabilities in public schools.

Specialists from the Dubai Early Childhood Development Centre, who completed the training sessions in three days, presented the latest methodologies to be followed in dealing and communicating with children,  in enhancing their reading and writing skills, and various aspects of the children's classroom behavior management.

"This initiative is part of the services provided by the Dubai Early Childhood Development Centre for schools and kindergartens that are part of the integration project in partnership with KHDA to implement best practices in the classroom to engage and interact with children with disabilities," said Dr Bushra Al Mulla, Director of DECDC.

"CDA and DECDC in partnership with KHDA support the efforts to ensure more access for children with disabilities in a safe healthy learning environment, and better education through active and comprehensive training for the teachers," added Dr Al Mulla.

Fatma Al Marri, CEO of Dubai Schools Agency at KHDA, said: "The focus on kindergartens sends a very important message as it lays the foundation for children throughout the rest of their schooling. We can learn from our special needs students the best ways in which they can integrate. This will make schools attractive, and also gives us a platform for ideas and creative initiatives between teachers and children inside the classroom."  

The participants said DECDC and KHDA's efforts will play a transformational role in further facilitating the process of integrating children with disabilities in the society by enhancing their skills in managing the classrooms more effectively.

Community Development Authority (CDA):
The CDA is a government entity mandated with enhancing the social development in Dubai to achieve the Dubai strategic plan 2015 which was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on February 2007.

The CDA will work towards promoting and raising the social standards in Dubai, and increasing the role of citizens in the community by cooperating with concerned entities in order to achieve the goals of the development sector and to develop the basic structure necessary for this.
