- Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) desktop trainer to help meet surging demand for pilots as advanced air mobility and unmanned systems operations grow
- CAE Sprint virtual reality trainer provides immersive, realistic experience for pilot training
Dubai, UAE : CAE will demonstrate a new Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) desktop simulator based on the company’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Mission Trainer at the upcoming Dubai Airshow from 14-18 November 2021, along with a host of other digital innovations.
Increasing advanced air mobility (AAM) and UAS operations over the next decade will create a surge in demand for pilots, which by some estimates could be close to 60,000 pilots needed by 2028. However, training solutions geared specifically towards VTOL operations are currently limited.
“CAE’s UAS Mission Trainer adapted for VTOL operations draws on decades of training expertise we have with remotely piloted aircraft to help train pilots. Highly trained VTOL pilots will help safely scale advanced air mobility and unmanned operations across global markets,” said Thibaut TRANCART, Vice President and Managing Director, Europe and Middle East, CAE.
CAE will also highlight a range of defence training solutions at its booth, including the CAE Trax Academy, a comprehensive pilot training continuum that delivers faster, better, and more efficient pilot throughput. Specifically, CAE will demonstrate its Sprint virtual reality (VR) trainer that is part of the Trax Academy and includes a VR headset, haptics and physical flight controls to deliver a high-fidelity and realistic virtual environment. CAE will also showcase its Virtual Maintenance Trainer, which integrates theory with practical skills to deliver maintenance technicians a high-fidelity immersive simulation of aircraft systems using virtual reality.
CAE will demonstrate several innovative digital training technologies during the Dubai Airshow at Booth 1640, including a desktop simulator for VTOL operations and its CAE Sprint VR trainer for immersive pilot training.
TRANCART continued: “By incorporating immersive digital training technologies, like virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence into the early stages of a training program, operators can achieve faster and more effective trainee throughput while accelerating practical experience. We are very excited to showcase how our suite of products and services can help cost-effectively prepare aircrews for combat situations and help achieve high levels of mission readiness.”
CAE recently acquired L3Harris’ Military Training business for US$1.05 billion, including Link and Doss Aviation, to create the world’s leading platform-agnostic training, simulation and operational support company.
CAE has been a long-term partner of defence forces and governments within the Middle East. The company has been doing business in the region since the early 1980’s and has its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi. CAE works closely with the UAE Air Force, UAE Navy and UAE Joint Aviation Command (JAC).
TRANCART added: “As a strategic partner in the UAE as well as other governments in the region, CAE brings global expertise and innovation to help build local capabilities and support the priorities of our customers in the Middle East.”
