The Secretariat-General of the Regional Clean Sea Organisation announced that the its board of directors will meet in Dubai from 11th to 12th of March.  Represented by major oil producers and national and global shipping companies in the Gulf Cooperation Council, Iran and Iraq , the board members will discuss effective policies and plans for the organization for the coming period.  

The board will review the annual reports on work progress, achievements and initiatives of the year 2008/2009, in addition to examining strategies, action plans and budget for the year 2009/2010, as well as considering recommendations and initiatives. Furthermore, according to the Organization's strategy, detailed reports shall be submitted quarterly and circulated to all members. It is also the responsibility of the organisation to handle these reports whether it was crisis management, environmental crisis, oil spills or sea pollution, in addition to carrying out training and regional coordination programs. 

The organisation also plays an effective role in spreading the environmental awareness and re-enforcing the social and institutional role of its members, in addition to sharing knowledge and building up national competencies.   

The board will also conduct the regular assessment, which combines the various disciplines of the Organization's activities tackling all parts of work program and the recommendations raised to the chairman of the Offshore Arabia Conference and Exhibition 2009, which was held in Dubai from 11th  - 13th January. 

Mr. Khamis Juma Bu-Amim the Chief Executive officer of (RECSO) said "RECSO is the oldest organisation in the world that combats oil pollution. Since its establishment in 1972, it is owned by Oil companies and tankers that from the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.  RECSO is a non-profit organisation, it works through binding agreements among members to cooperate and join hands to prevent and reduce the risks of marine pollution and respond to accidents and crises under the motto "mutual aid and clean seas". Mr. Bu-Amim also declared that "the organisation strives to expand the size of participation and effective contribution within all sectors, to maintain capacity building to combat oil spills, protect marine environment and conserve natural resources of the sea".  

Mr. Bu-Amim also clarified that the organisation is maximizing its regional and international role to contribute positively in supporting the national and regional effort made for raising responsibility levels,  reducing risks and enhancing the important role of regional governments to maintain clean seas.  This initiative is derived from the commitment of the members to protect the environment and develop the scope of work for energy, environment, and sustainable development.  

The agenda of the meeting will highlight aspects related to public policy of the Organization, the concluded agreements, the implementation plans for programs and strategic partnerships to support decision makers in regard with regional or international variables linked to the importance of establishing and developing national plans to manage crises and disasters, also combat marine pollution and preserve its natural resources. The meeting will also address the objective evaluation of the strategies and preparedness for emergencies and timely response to them. 

Mr. Bu-Amim also added that we are strategically required to develop "adjustment" techniques with the related changes to the financial, economic, oil, energy, and environment fields, highlighting the importance of the human factor in this equation.   Energy and environment are essential to maintain sustainable development which will help in meeting communities' needs to develop, grow, and achieve its goals for a better economic, social, and human development.  We have to search for the best and most effective ways to achieve economic and environmental security permanently.
